Mookie is firmly buried as #6 on the bench, #11 overall. From all reports (here and in the media) he has maintained a good attitude, is a good teammate and is well like by his teammates. The latest article shows he has great respect for JB. Here is the question. Does he leave at the end of the year? He is a 4th year Junior (senior acdemicaly) and hopefully on track to graduate. Does he return? I doubt that his playing prospects are going to get better with Cooney around and Southerland or Fair as heir apparent for the 3 spot. And lastly his shot seems to have left him as he has tried to work more into the flow of the offense. Dose he say thank you very much for the learning opportunity and fade away into the night?

Can't he take his degree and transfer somewhere to play immediately as long as he starts grad school at the school he's x-ferring too? That's always an option (if I'm thinking of the rule correctly).

What is his major? If he can find a good school that he could start his masters along with getting a free year it would give him a chance to play and beef up his resume if the school is better grad school than SU in that particular field.

Has to be a degree/program not offered by SU.

He says he doesn't want a 9 to 5 job, so I'm guessing grad school is not in the cards. My guess is that he takes his degree and goes off to play in Europe or somewhere.

If he gets his degree and JB wants to free up the sholie, I'd assume Mookie wouldn't be asked back. If JB has an extra scholie and if Mookie wanted a year of grad school, I suppose he could sit on the bench next year.

Mook will never play but he seems to have treasured his time at SU. He is a virtual walk-on these days but he seems to be at peace with that.

And he would also have to play a different sport I'm pretty sure, otherwise the rule of having to sit out a year would still apply. Paulus could not have come to Syracuse to play basketball after he played 4 years at Duke, but he was allowed to play football because of this loophole.

Paulus couldn't come to SU to play basketball because he had burned all of his eligibility in basketball. Mookie will still have a year left after this year.

Ahh, I thought his eligibility was up after this year. He would still have to sit out a year if he transferred to another D1 school though, right?

No.

A student can transfer with degree in hand and play immediately as long as he has one more year of eligibility (which Mookie has).

As long at the graduate degree at the new school is not offered at the undergrad school.

Silly NCAA and their non-sensical rules

My opinion of Mookie has really grown from what I'm seeing this year. Welch mentioned it on the broadcast the other night, how Mookie was highly recruited, but could never "crack the rotation".
Maybe he had an argument for PT before, but this year its pretty obvious the talent is much better at his position- so perhaps he matured & came to terms with it.
Either way, he gets an SU education & degree in the bargain- not too shabby!;)
