Any strange science behind this, or is it a misconception? Hearing the Megan Rapinoe news yesterday, and the USWNT refusing to play on the turf in Hawaii (Carrier Dome turf is probably much better, still), it makes you wonder if turf's "non-giving" feel -- compared to dirt and grass -- can increase the likelihood of an injury.

I'd hate to think the one aspect of the Dome that can make Syracuse explosive is also one that can cause the most damage.

The latest generation features a bottom layer of sand, a middle layer of rubber and sand, and a top layer of rubber bits mixed into longer fibers of fake grass. This turf has fared much better in injury research.
I've seen a bunch of articles from a few years ago where it is easier to tear an ACL on turf, but with the newest generation studies haven't been to conclusive as the older styles of turf. It is is getting safer and safer to play on.

I have also seen research to suggest everything you said is correct

I just saw that the Baltimore Ravens are converting M & T Bank Stadium to real grass next year.
We obviously don't have this option playing in the dome.
