Why is that regulation in place? I am assuming that all the money involved here is above the table. In essence, the school might as well have paid the staff members as part of their contracts.

I can understand the NCAA not allowing payment from outside sources but a HC is internal. Richt seems like a really good dude to take care of his guys that way.

Is it only the assistants who are under that outside-source restriction? Does the NCAA control what shoe companies etc. can pay head coaches for endorsements?

It's insane. Anyone who hasn't read "The Shame of College Sports,"
from The Atlantic in October should take 20 minutes to do so. The NCAA is a cartel, in it's truest sense.

seems like a pretty easy thing to get around.. coach renegotiates his contract, takes a paycut and the school gives the coaches more money..
