)Bobby Lazor, never brought it- you need more than 10 seconds to unpack it

16)Mookie Jones, what could have been- What could have been?

"frustrating" is not the right word for most of those guys because they were not on the floor enough (if at all) to do anything frustrating

You've been on a role lately.

Earl Duncan's problem was that he had to play behind an All American and didn't want to wait his turn. He would have been our senior PG in 89-90 and probably a key sub in the 1989 Elite Eight game against Illinois (keeping Sherm out of foul trouble).

Then he listened to Keith Hughes and decided he would be better off at RU. I thought I read somewhere later on that he regretted leaving SU.

Your list didn't include Tony Scott or LeSean Howard. Tony could have been a star here, and he knew it...but realized it too late. He was a pawn and got played by Rob Johnson. I loved Tony Scott. He was an amazing player. Could have been our Reggie Williams.

As for Howard, that kid was never D1 material. He came out of Ohio with all this hype and had ZERO fundamentals. The perfect example of a player skating by on unbelievable athleticism and hitting a wall when people actually played defense on him. He had no handle and no shot.

Anthony Harris was his own worst enemy. He came in without the grades and had to sit. As I recall his mother was not happy with that. Just before he was going to get an opportunity, he transferred. He's another one who regretted it, but still had a solid two seasons at Hawaii (?). I still remember the game where SU played his team in the NCAA's. He had game.

Fab Melo in the classroom and Paul Harris because of his hype

Louie McCroskey

Michael Edwards

Josh Wright

Paul Harris

Brandon Triche

With the incredible hype that came with him, has to be Paul Harris for me.

Paul Harris wasn't a total bust, but the frustration came in realizing that he was never gonna redevelop his game for the position he was BORN to play. He was the classic tweener- a SG in a PF's body, with a game to match.
You can't have a 6'4 PF- so it would've served him to develop a face-up and perimeter game to compliment his bulk.
I kept waiting for signs that, like CJ, he'd worked on and developed a consistent jumper...but that never happened. :noidea:

Yep. I didn't mean to say he was a bust, just that it was frustrating that he never reached the level that all of us thought he would.

Back in the old days we had a pair that was suppose to keep the ball rolling at a high rate. Vaughn Harper and Val Reid. Never happened. No magic in those dice.

Harris scored over 1200 points in three seasons and averaged over 7 boards a game despite being just 6'5". I wish things worked out better between him and Boeheim at the end, but I'd say he had a pretty damn good career.

People thought he was going to be Carmelo. THAT'S why he always makes these kind of lists.

So is that his fault or is it the fault of the people who had those expectations? I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just curious where people stand.

I think some of each. A lot of us fell victim to the hype that preceded him onto the floor; but he still could have been so much better than he was. I don't believe he ever learned to think his way around the floor, and that's what limited his development.

Doesn't really matter if we're just talking about frustrating players. But he did have a terrible bball IQ as well.

Harris was interviewed before the game and had nothing but great things to say about Jim Boeheim and Syracuse. He talked about how he should have stayed but was immature I also think you played more than just a couple seasons in the NBA
I had an opportunity to speak with Michael Brown's head coach at North Syracuse high school helping Michael get qualified for SATs. I asked why he was looking at Syracuse he said that they JB was very honest with them they thought they had recruited an all-american backcourt in Harris abd Sims so they wouldn't be a place for Michael.

i love dc and was too young to remember him vividly but how can he not be for the missed freebies in the title game? cant loved and frustrating share a room here?

Well since senior Howard Triche missed the front end of a 1&1 mediately before that and Rony dribbled a wide open breakaway dunk off his knee in the first half, it's hard to blame just DC

Coleman

While respecting that he gutted it out while being hurt - as far as frustrating, I go with TRob. A case of unharnessed athleticism. It never all came together for him on the court.
