Please note, I'm hoping to keep this non-partisan, and not have it morph into a hate fest. Hopefully we can be somewhat mature about it.

So, best "moments". What are they? Moments defined as a specific play or occurrence, NOT a string of plays or an entire game. And the events can/should be both positive and negative, so long as they are memorable.

Here are some starters. I'd think we could get to about 100:

Good
Sam Jefferson's foul
The orange thrown at backboard
JT getting tossed and flapping arms
The "punch", v.1 and v.2
McNabb's dunk

Bad
C. Smith coast to coast
Pearl with towel over head
AO injury
Flynn rimming out

Good: Dave Johnson ridiculous put back slam.

bad: "manley field house is officially closed"

"Gerry Mac drops one on gtown"

Gmac fast break pass to devo for game winning layup in 06 BET.

McNabb's miracle game off the bench.

Good: JT getting kicked out of the game at the Dome in 1990 (the loudest I have ever heard the dome).

Bad: "I pronounce Manley Field House officially closed."

Odd piece of trivia: I was at both the first game in the Dome (against Kent State) and the last one there. Anyone else do that?

McNabb's miracle game off the bench.

I am going to publicly post a $20 bounty to anyone that can produce video of McNabb's block of Jaheidi White.

Does anyone know what year it was when the orange was thrown into the backboard? I was sick and stayed home from school and espn was showing that game from the night before. That is the day I became a Syracuse fan.

Nevermind. 1985. Found it in this article. Good read about how rowdy that game was. Does anyone know what the chant they bleeped out in the article actually said?

I believe the obscene student reaction to made free throws referenced in the article was

! YOU, ASSH*LE!

One moment that stands out to me that nobody ever brings up was the day Syracuse dedicated their court to Jim Boeheim. We were playing Georgetown and were a big favorite, and they beat us. That still bothers me.

A little more recent, the year we got screwed by the selection committee, we had a huge win over a top 5 Georgetown team to earn our way into the tournament.

But for me nothing will ever top the 1990 record breaking attendance game where John Thompson got 3 technical fouls and was ejected. I still believe that was the loudest I have ever heard the Dome. I couldn't sleep that night because my ears were ringing.

Do you remember what happened after that?

CorduroyG: "Gerry Mac drops one on gtown"

Pearl's game winner & Tom Mees elbow

Here's one for the good, JB the comedian after downing Georgetown

JB reacts to SU fan

Another good one SU fans take over the corridor at Verizon Center

Donte on the drums at halftime

Manny say bad some say good

Froggy days
Here's one for the bad

Was there any video or audio of Big John saying that?

Yeah, I was there for both. Lived in Syracuse for a couple of years after graduation. The "official closing" of Manley was the only time I saw them lose as an undergrad. It's 8 AM and Georgetown still sucks!

Mine-
Bad-
Ewing putting a vicious elbow to the Pearl's pretty head.
The chicken Sh** ref who didn't toss Michael Graham
Perry (Watson?) the lefty x boxer, Victor Page, Reggie Williams...

good-
The Pearl not standing for Ewing's dirty bow and retaliating.
Stevie Thompson flying over Mutombo and Mourning for rebounds and dunks.
David Johnson's put back slam and his Tournament winning jumper, both over Mourning.
Craig Shelton, John Durham, Sleepy Floyd, Mutombo- worthy adversaries.
Sherm, Moten, Lloyd, Melo, Dante, AO... being able to go home and rag on the Hoyas in their neighborhoods.
30 years of a great rivalry, road trips, trash talk, t-shirts (Just say No. Friends don't let Friends go to Gtown) which will be one of the biggest things that I will miss about the Big East when we move to the ACC.

Anyone remember how after the Pearl/Ewing altercation in the BET Semis Pearl really went off - breaking Michael Jackson's ankles a couple times with his Globetrotter dribbling exhibition and taunting him as he did it? One of my fondest memories and why Pearl is The Pearl!

Pearls punch to Ewings junk
the orange hitting the backboard
jt getting tossed
jefferson fouling owens
every time pearl broke a hoya ankle

Marty Headd's game-winner to finally break the "Hoya Hex". I think people forget what really built the rivalry in Orange fans' eyes was the fact that before the Manley game (before the conference started), G-Town had beaten us 2 or 3 times, and after the Manley game they beat us 4 or 5 times in a row (including in the 1st BET when JB got double-T'd in the final minutes of a close game). Head's winner broke something like a 7 or 8 game losing streak.

Bowman with the toe on the line
Erik Rogers making an appearance in the 1st half of BET Final
Pearl's cross-over on Michael Jackson

Pearl's cross-over on Michael Jackson

In the Bowman game, Warrick's run-out and dunk to clinch it in overtime.

There should be more youtube videos of some of these moments, and just older cuse games in general. Id love to see some of those late 80s, early 90s hoyas games, especially those sunday afternoon games at the dome to end the regular season.

^ This. I still brings a huge smile to my face to remember it.

There's more to that story too. Pearls mother was sitting one section over from us. A bunch of GTown fans started giving her some crap (I don't know how they knew it was his mother). A bunch of us in the SU section then went over and surrounded her. Nothing significant broke out.

For me, the most memorable SU / GTown moment was the March 89 game in the Dome--Sherman Douglas's last home game. The Hoyas really had our number--had won about 6 games in a row, including several close games, and had a BIG lead on us in the second half that we erased in the most exciting comeback I've ever seen as an SU fan. My all time favorite SU game that I've attended live.

The fight between Pearl / Ewing, and seeing the Hoya big man fall to his knees afterward after Peal socked him.

JTII getting tossed in the 1990 game in the Dome. Unforgettable 5 minutes.

The 96 game in the Dome, where John Wallace and crew just annihilated Georgetown. There was no way they were going to beat us that night, despite being much higher ranked.

The Michael Graham punch will always be memorable for me. Talk about a wild scene that was poorly handled by the refs.

Beating Georgetown to advance to the 86 BET finals, in a game where Gtown's defensive strategy seemed to be to full court press Pearl using all five guys to force him to give up the ball.

GMac's shot in 2003, at Georgetown.

And both last and least, the Charles Smith scoop shot in 88 to beat us in the Dome. . And I might as well include AO's injury in 2010--if ever there was a reason to rekindle my disdain for the Hoyas after the rivalry seemed to have cooled off, this was it.

JT getting tossed and flapping arms

JT had that ejection scripted as if he was getting a rush from the theatricality. The actual developments on the court did not jive with his over-the-top reaction.

Good: JT getting kicked out of the game at the Dome in 1990 (the loudest I have ever heard the dome).

I was there (albeit it much younger than I was now) and the thing I remember about that game was the noise. But I still wonder if Pitt 2003 was louder...it was pretty close! The thing that always struck me about both games was the haze from all the noise. like the brown cloud.
