Lots of different ways to look at this. My view includes compensation. After all, in most things you get what you pay for.
  1. Justin Fuente
  2. Clay Helton
  3. Jim Harbaugh
  4. Chad Morris
  5. Chip Kelly
  6. Willie Taggart
  7. Manny Diaz
  8. Matt Luke
  9. Joe Moorhead
  10. Mike Locksley
Notes:
UCONN doesn't count as that isn't football.
Auburn fans are nuts.
What is USC thinking?
Love yo hear everyone's thoughts.
LGO!

Urban Meyer to USC has been so obvious since he went to the Fox show in LA every week.

Jimbo Fisher at A&M hasn’t been special and he didn’t leave Florida State in good shape.

Is Fuente the most overrated? He's gone 10-4, 9-4, 6-7 and has Va Tech pretty strong right now at 5-2. Their dud 6-7 season was still a bowl season.
Not worth the money IMO.
Who is your #1?

Just like Harbaugh - not worth the money IMO. I think you have to adjust for program and money.
Who is yours?

The Chip Kelly thing is a little nuts. This is his second year at UCLA. 63 players have left the program in one way or another since he was hired. Some call it the Kelly Purge. Let's wait at least a minute or two before he's on that list at all. He sucked in the pros but was great at Oregon. And, yes the Ducks were hit with a two-year probation on his watch and a show cause. Whatever.

  • To be overrated, you have to be rated. Clay Helton was never viewed as a good coach and universally seen as a bad hire by USC. Even if they finish with a good record, they will get rid of him if Meyer is available.
  • Manny Diaz should have never been hired. Miami needed a clean slate and should have gone externally with someone who had no ties to the U. It's only year one, but him conceding that it is a rebuild is not sitting well with the fans and alumni. No one wants to hear that word.
  • Chad Morris. What was he thinking going to Arkansas? That's where coaches go to die. Bielema's failure there should have been enough of a sign of how much work he was going to have to put in there to be competitive. Now his SMU team is reaching new levels under Sonny Dykes.

People in glass houses are usually smart enough not to throw stones.
That is funny coming from you. Coach Mac was very high on my most overrated list. His record after 6 long years was pretty much what Frank Maloney gave us. Without the Dome. He got a great qb that had a great year with a schedule that was not what we have played in recent years. They had to get him off the head sets because he would ramble. Most times, he didn't know how many time outs we had. Here are his first 6 years.
4-6-1, 2-9, 6-5, 6-5, 7-5 , 5-6 he then had two terrific seasons 11-0 10-2 But he in no way played the schedule that Dino played last year. What is it for you and Coach Mac? Is it the UMass connection?

I wouldn't start a thread throwing shade on other coaches now or when Mac was building. I think it takes 6 years to build a solid program.

Pretty much sounded like you were throwing shade at Dino in year 4

I don't think I've been too critical. I think it's fine to give some criticism with as poorly as this year has gone. I just wouldn't start a thread to point the finger at other struggling coaches at this point.

We were in a better spot in 1980 then we were when Dino took over. Our schedule was much easier.

Why don’t you take a look at Coach Mac’s roster at the end of his tenure. The team had many future NFL players and guys who were just great college players. Also look at Syracuse’s success immediately following Mac’s departure with his players (Hint: we won 10 games each of the years after he left). Mac built a very, very solid program stocked with talented players. He did it the right way and was an asset to the university. Overrated? Yeah, him and GMAC!

Glad you agree. Why don't you revisit the sack mac group who wanted him gone. The guy didn't know how many time outs we had half the time. And there were a lot of things going on with the program while mac was here. Don't shine the halo too bright. My main point wasn't about mac. It was about the poster who uses him as a avatar complaining about babers. And our rise had as much to do with Pitt falling apart than anything else. We didn't exactly play a tough schedule. and P won those games after Mac left.

Not worth the money IMO.

How is our 10 win season “magical” and Fuentes goes 10 and 9 wins and is overrated and not worth the money. I’d kill for that.

I genuinely loved Coach Mac, but I can’t for the life of me understand how his coaching resume was CFB Hall of Fame worthy. If he’s in, Coach P absolutely has to be in.

In fairness our schedule is pretty weak right now and Ncstate was half injured.
We didn't play anything like Clemson every year. In '87, our tough games were Penn st., Pitt and who else? There is no comparison to what we played then and what we play now.

A&M is a year away from being a top 10-15 team. Only have like 6 Seniors on the roster this year. Mond will be a Sr next year and have a top 5 QB coming in. Wife is currently an Aggie so I've been to or watched every game so far including my 1st trip to The Grove last night.
