SU went from elite status to zip status.

Were we really elite status with McNabb? In his 4 years at SU, we were ranked in the Top 10 in exactly one AP poll, and that was the preseason poll in 1996 when we started #9.

Elite is a relative and subjective term for me. Do you have to be top 10 or top 25? Elite when compared to what happened after he left. In '91 with Marvin Graves at QB AP 's final ranking was #11. In '92 #6. McNabb played after a redshirt year from '95 - '98. In '95 final rankings AP #19, USA Today #16, '96 AP# 21, USA Today # 19, '97 AP # 21, USA Today# 20, '98 AP # 25, USA Today #24. During this time of change in our offense it would be nice to recruit a QB who could provide stats like this:

In 1994, his first year at Syracuse, McNabb went on to start every game during his college career, compiling a 35–14 record.[10] As a freshman, he completed the longest touchdown pass in Syracuse's history—a 96-yard throw against West Virginia University—in a game where he accounted for 354 total yards of offense;[11] he was named the Big East Conference's rookie of the year at the end of the season.[12] McNabb amassed 2,892 yards of total offense in his junior season to set a school record.[13] As a senior, he led Syracuse to a berth in the Orange Bowl against Florida as he completed 157 of 251 passes (62.5%) for 2,134 yards; he also pushed the eventual champions, the 1998 Tennessee Volunteers, to the limit in a very close game. His 22 touchdown passes tied the school's single season record, set by former Eagle Don McPherson in 1987. McNabb also rushed 135 times for 438 yards and 8 touchdowns. He ranked sixth in the nation with a 158.9 passing efficiency rating and 22nd in total offense, with 233.8 yards per game. He tied a school record with 4 touchdown passes against Cincinnati, and scored 5 touchdowns against Miami (3 rushing and 2 passing). McNabb was also teammates with future NFL star Marvin Harrison for one season at Syracuse.

Dino and his staff have their work cut out for them. IMHO, a new, positive resume needs to be accomplished so better players take notice. That ain't going to happen in one two or even three years. Does not matter what kind of facilities we have - it is our record(s) that will count. An aside - we had a visit from a QB who in my mind - looking at the shots taken at SU was doing us a favor being here. Whether PhatOrange's statement is cool remains to be seen. You usually get what you give in life. Never know when we might need his help. Although to me, Coney presents himself visually as though his SDS.

Heard Dino talk at the NYS High School coaches clinic in February... he was amazing and I have to believe he can sell his vision for this program to anyone. Would not at all be surprised to see SU land some very big fish with him at the healm.
