The Orange got the first scoring opportunity of the match in the 19th minute when Julian Buescher found some space in the attacking end and got a shot on net that beat Georgetown goalkeeper Tomas Gomez, but was cleared to safety by a Hoya defender. Alex Muyl answered back with a scoring chance for the Hoyas in the 28th minute, unleashing a hard shot from distance that goalkeeper Alex Bono turned away with a diving save. Early in the second half, Alex Halis broke the stalemate and found the back of the net. Buescher used some fancy footwork to carry the ball into the the box, and found Halis with a crafty heel pass who buried a shot into the far side of the net in the 55th minute. In the second half of play, the Orange controlled the majority of play, containing the ball in the midfield and connecting passes into the attacking end. In the 80th minute, Georgetown's Keegan Rosenberry scored the equalizer, connecting a header on Tyler Rudy's corner kick from the back post. The goal was the first off of a corner kick all season for the Hoyas. The 1-1 score would hold the final 10 minutes of regulation. Just seconds into the overtime period, Oyvind Alseth carried the ball into the attacking end and distributed the ball to Nick Perea who then found Emil Ekblom for a great scoring chance, but the loose ball was gobbled up by Gomez. Four minutes later, the Hoyas earned another corner kick. Tyler Rudy sent a shallow cross to the front post where Jared Rist was positioned to redirect the ball just inside the front post for the game winner. The goal was the first of Rist's collegiete career. With the loss, the Orange end their impressive season with a 16-4-1 record, advancing to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons. Match Notes: Buescher tallied his fifth assist of the season, tied for fifth most by a freshman in Syracuse history … The 2014 team has the second most victories in a season, topped only by the 1982 squad who won 19 matches.
