Men's Soccer | 12/10/2014 10:21:00 AM | McIntyre Named South Region Coach of the Year Orange manager now eligible for national coach of the year honors KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Orange head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre has been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Region Coach of the Year, the association announced Wednesday, Dec. 10. The award is the second 2014 coaching honor for McIntyre who was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year in November. McIntyre and the other six regional coaches of the year will be recognized at the NSCAA Convention next month in Philadelphia. As a regional award recipient, McIntyre is eligible for the organization's national coach of the year award, which is expected to be announced next week. The 2014 season was a banner year for the Orange. McIntyre led the team to a 16-4-1 overall record, a share of the ACC Atlantic Division title and an appearance in the NCAA's Round of 16. Along the way, Syracuse captured the No. 1 national ranking for the first time in program history and spent seven straight weeks in the top five. Under McIntyre's guidance, four players earned all-conference honors for an Orange squad that led the league in fewest goals allowed (12), goals-against average (0.55) and shutouts (12), including 2014 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist Alex Bono. This year's award marks the second time in his career McIntyre has earned NSCAA regional coaching honors. In 2004, he was named the NSCAA New York Region Coach of the Year after guiding Hartwick College to a 13-3-3 record and a second-place showing in the Atlantic Soccer Conference. In addition, McIntyre joins Tim Hankinson and Dean Foti as the only Syracuse coaches to be recognized by the association. Hankinson was voted the NSCAA New York Region Coach of the Year in 1986 and Foti received the same accolade in 1999. In five seasons at Syracuse, McIntyre is 45-38-9, including a 40-17-3 record and two NCAA Tournament appearances since 2012. He owns a 152-103-4 career record with 11 winning seasons in 16 years as a college head coach.
