Mullen expected to be next coach at St Johns

I like Chris and wish him well but he will start at rock bottom if Jordan and Obekpa leave. Very tough job.

I'm wouldn't be too thrilled if I were a St John's fan. This guy is royalty over there. What happens if he runs the team even further into the ground?

Not a big fan of this hire with no college experience but it's worked out with Hoiberg. But if the Johnnies wanted to hire a famous alum, Chris is definitely the one I wold have gone with.

Boeheim vs Mullin for the NYC talent. Do we get the next McCullough now?

It's still Syracuse vs St Johns.

Do most NYC kids know who Mullin is? I'm 37 and barely remember him. "Your dad (or even grandfather with some of them) loved me" is not a recruting pitch.

I'm 31 and I know of him as the guy who did some NBA commentary for a minute.

High risk, high payoff pick...if he does well the chance of him getting plucked away is slim. I think he'll do well if he can get a couple City guys as recruiters.

i think this might be a disaster. no doubt chris mullin was one of the greatest players ever to play in the BE. old school gym rat with great ball skills and instincts.
i don't know that he can teach those intangibles to today's players or even coach a lick. sentimental pick for sure. but i'm not sold it was the right move.

Im 32 and my memories of him are as a warrior in the 90's, I know he is an icon at St. Johns, but I think they should have gone for one of the Hurley brothers.

It's all about recruiting. St John's has not picking up the City's best talent since the days of Louis. The school wants to bring back those glory days. Good for business. Their hope is Mullin can do it. They are also trying hard to move into the void created by SU's switch to the ACC.

If you live in the NYC Metro area you will have noticed the precipitous drop-off in coverage of SU activity since our move to the ACC. The ACC is not seen as relative news downstate. Hopefully this will change.
