We all know that Rex passing skills are limited. So what plays do we run that he can do well with?

Here’s my list

1) QBs draw
2)) read option
3) shovel pass to TE
4) swing pass to Tucker
5)bomb
6) pop pass to TE
7)jet sweep
8) roll out sweep
9) quick in route over middle to TE
10) wide pitch to get the edge

What else can we use to play to his strengths?

Like the ten. Focus on short and intermediate passes. Only couple long passes mixed in to keep defense honest. Quick passes to TE using middle of the field. Use Hendricks and bensen size in the passing game.

If you only have 10 plays that your QB can run
You have major problems.
BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Did he suggest there are only ten plays that our QB s capable of, or did he suggest ten plays that will likely work well given Rex’s strengths?

I like rex it's a great story but he's limited.
I agree that Rex is limited, but that as still a very negative post. Maybe he can do enough positive things that he can lead SU to a victory over Freakin Liberty. Gotta stay positive !

I have to expect he can do enough to beat Liberty the question is about the rest of the Acc schedule.

1. Wildcat
2. Annexation of Puerto Rico
3. Flea Flicker
4. QB Sneak
5. Naked bootleg
6. Hail Mary
7. WR Reverse
8. Quick Kick
9. QB Draw
10. Triple Option
Not sure, but the Annexation of Puerto Rico may still be under copyright. We may have to rename it "Orange Nation Annexation". We all know the Orange Nation Annexation worked on the hardwood, SU has no away games anymore. Maybe we can roll that influence over to the gridiron.

An actual run game where he hands the ball off. Then you have all kinds of plays- whams, traps, inside zone, outside zone, cutbacks, etc. Or we can do a RPO dive every play.

elmore is a pretty agile guy. He should be pulling- they did it once again GT and I haven’t seen it since.

I think he should channel my go to backyard football play: everyone just go out.
As long as Liberty doesn't cheat on the 3 Mississippi, he should have someone open.

He'll throw nothing but out passes until he gets it right!

Good list.

Rex actually will throw to the left aide of the field as well, something that TD rarely did except for a swing pass or three-step a lot bullet.

Will be interesting to see the sack #s the next couple weeks as well.

He did try a few deep balls to the left, usually to a wide open receiver, but he seemed to struggle throwing left for whatever reason.

I just watched his HS highlight tape, since he has played so little at Syracuse, to get an idea what kind of a player he is.

I would say he is no speedster but is agile in the open field and it looks like he is capable of breaking some tackles. Big, strong guy.

It looks like he can make throws on the run (he will probably need to) and it looks like he has good vision on broken plays. He will probably need that too.

Liberty's defense has been weak against the run. Could the staff look to exploit with by installing some option plays? They have experimented with them in the recent past with Tommy...I would not be surprised to see some of this.

If Tucker is not healthy, it really becomes hard to attack Liberty with running plays. Pierce seems to lack vision and hasn't really shown much speed or power. I have heard some good things about Lutz flashing since he was moved to RB, but Pena was the guy the staff went to last week (along with Pierce) after Tucker hurt).

My guess is all three of the remaining RBs will get some playing time and the staff will go to the one with the hot hand. It is a great opportunity for Pena and Lutz to come out of nowhere and become a big factor on the team. The same applies to Pierce. I hope someone steps up. If we have to rely on Culpepper to throw it a ton to move the ball, it is going to be tough to put a lot of points on the board.

Liberty will surely do with everyone else does against us...play 8 men in the box, play tight man coverage on our WRs, try to take away the short passes and the running back and force us to attack them with long passes. They aren't nearly as well equipped to pull this off as the ACC teams we have been facing, but with all the injuries, our offense is a shell of itself, and we weren't very good when the skilled guys were healthy.

I think one of the keys to the game is Thompson and his availability. If he can go and is healthy, we have a chance to stop their running game. It would really help if Richards as able to play as well. I think those are our two best LBs against the run.

Not sure the other linebackers are ready to stop the run at this point in their careers. That goes for the remaining safeties as well. Maybe you move Iffy to Rover and put Nunn at CB? We are so thin at CB, that would be a dangerous thing to try. But we have to find a way to stop the run and get more beef in the middle.
