So when the season wrapped and his agent told him about the Washington inquiry, he did his due diligence and loved the situation there and the closer proximity to family and the chance to build his own program, and he decided to leap at the opportunity. If Hop thought for one second that JB would still stick to the retirement timeline, even with Hop gone, there’s no way he would have left his alma mater in the lurch, especially after being groomed for the job. He could clearly see JB still wanted to coach and had been forced into setting a retirement date by Syverud and the sanctions.
