The show this year will be broadcast on Thursdays at 7PM from TGI Fridays on the third floor of Destiny USA, (just past the theater ticket booth and on the right after you walk down the hallway). I don’t know if they will take questions from the audience there but they say you can watch the show whereas when it was at a restaurant, their table tended to be in a secluded location. (Remember its Thursdays at TGI Fridays, not Fridays at TGI Thursdays). The football show is an hour in duration, (Coach Boeheim’s basketball show is usually 2 hours).

Note: because the first game is on a Friday Night, the first show will be on Wednesday, September 2nd. After that it will be on the Thursday before each game until the last game when the show will again be on a Wednesday, (11/25) due to Thanksgiving.

“Fans are invited to attend the show in person or participate via telephone (1-888-7-Go Cuse or 424-8599) or Twitter (@CuseIMG) using the hashtag #AskShafe. You can also listen to the show live each week on the Syracuse IMG Sports Network and Cuse.com. Wednesday's show will be on 99.1 FM and 97.7 FM, as well. The show will regularly air on 99.5FM (Syracuse)99.1 FM (Utica) and 1200 AM.” You can also get it on: http://tunein.com/radio/WGVA-1240-s29191/
That first phone number is 1-888-746-2873 numerically.

You can also send them in advance at this site:

(I do both so they can be prepared to give me an informed, reasoned answer.)

“Coach, now that AJ Long is not available due to concussions, it seems more important than ever to protect the health of the quarterbacks we have left. Many fans expressed concern that Eric Dungey and Zack Mahoney take a lot of big hits on the option. Is there any thought of eliminating the option for our offense from now or reducing the number of times we run it?”

excellent question

Except AJ hasn't been an option at QB All season why would it change now?

I would ask about us defending against spread offenses and why it seems like we are playing checkers while the other team is playing chess.

Also, 3rd down defense. Ask what we can do to improve on our 3rd down defense efficiency. We get teams into 3rd and long but tend to give up big plays via execution and/or penalties to extend opponent's drives.

The story was that Long's hand was OK now but that injury had set him back in learning his new grip. hat sounded like he would become available at some point.

Another excellent question. Even before AJ's injury I'd hold my breath everytime ED was running the option.

"Not really. We like making the other team prepare for it. But We've gotta be smarter about the thing...get the reads cleaned up the right way. Eric also has to do a better job about throwing the gosh darn ball away, getting down after he gets the yards. That kinda thing."

Or something like that.

That's not really the point. You just lost a player to concussions, no matter what the position. You have a QB that lost a game due to a violent cheap hit, which may or may not be a "concussion" but certainly something you'd want to keep an eye on. You have a QB without breakaway speed, so he's not going to get out of bounds to avoid a hit or score a bunch of runaway TDs on the option. He's going to get hit just about every keeper. So do you continue to risk that?

i'm not saying shafer is a bad guy here but who wouldn't be most concerned with whatever they can do now to save their jobs

Are we sure option = more concussions? I know it means more contact. But GTech hasn't lost a QB to it and they run it 98% of the time.

Also - Dungey got hit on a pass play. And while we're all sure he got a concussion, some of the info coming out (very little) leads in the opposite direction. That they were very careful and that the protocol didn't turn up anything. Dungey himself said his leg and neck was the issue.

Lester also said he was running on designed plays 7/8 times - but ran an extra 8 or something. Hence the "throw it away" and "know when to go down" comments.

If I were him and wanted to save my job, it wouldn't be by running 15 option plays per game with a QB who's already taken one on the chin. Dungey can save his job with his passing ability being so ahead of schedule for a true freshman, and his ability to make a play when things break down. Yeah, he might take a hit there again, but that's something that no QB can avoid.

A 4 win season with a true freshman QB playing along side all the other returning players will look a lot better than a 4 win season with a 5th year senior QB or a walkon QB playing along side all the other returning players.

They are going to run their offense and play to win the games. That is what they do.
