“Coach, last year we wound up with a winning record and a bowl win. If this year’s team can duplicate that we’ll all be very pleased. But last year’s team absorbed some severe defeats along the way. This year’s team, for all the problems, has stayed in games against everybody, including a couple of top ten teams. Why had this team been more consistently competitive than last year’s team? “
