The normal formula is FGA - O-Rebs + TO + (47.5% of FTA). I don't have offensive rebound or turnover information before the 1982-83 season. Fortunately, those numbers are usually about the same, so the formula FGA + (47.5% of FTA) gives us an approximate number of possessions.
