Well, I did not get to see the first four games of the season, so up until that point any thoughts I had were second-hand. Now, I get to form my own opinions:

1. CJ - I said after the Cal game that it seemed like his three point shot was MIA. I guess he read my post & hit two big ones early against Baylor. That seemed to really give him confidence & set the table for the rest of his game. I doubt he is really the "best" player in teh ACC in terms of raw talent, but he is smooth and smart and clutch. He is willing to take on the leadership mantle. He will have a huge season & get drafted in the first round IMHO.

2. Ennis - I posted after the Minn game that those who criticized his 1 for 9 were way off base because his shooting form and his ability to get anywhere he wants to on the court would be key. His ball control, smarts, and lack of TOs are incredible for any PG, never mind a frosh PG. In those respects he is actually an upgrade over MCW. I got a quick call from my NBA scout friend who was in Maui just before the start of the Baylor game, and all I had time to ask him was one question. So Iasked what he thought about Ennis and in NBA terms he said he lacks great athleticism, so that give me hope he won't be a one and done. It will be interesting to have a more detailed post-tourney update with my friend. All I know is that this kid will be a great, great college player, and I hope when the time comes that he will also have a terrific career at the next level.

3. Cooney - He is greatly improved from last season in skills and confidence. However, I am still not sold that he will be able to effectively get his own against an elite man defender. As with most shooters, he will have his good and bad games. The line is thin, not because of Trevor per se, but because we do not have anybody to share the load for his role on the days when he is having an off game.

4. Jerami - I was very high on Jerami, but he is exceeding even my expectations. All I can say is enjoy him now because if he continues to play at this level he will be gonzo after the season.

5. Mike G - He is a big disappointment to me. He doesn't find a way to make plays though he is generally solid. If he is gets 1o to 15 MPG, he just has to make 3 or 4 plays in that stretch. Of course, part of the problem is not his fault as he is rotating amongst three positions. Still, he needs to find his confidence and accomplish more. To me the jury is out of whether or not he has a sufficient skillset to accomplish that. My gut sense is that because he is learning the PG position, and the #1 responsibility when he is playing PG is to protect the ball, and that has made him all around more cautious than necessary.

6. The center trio - Well, Dujuan shows promise, but there is no reason to think that he will not be inconsistent all season long and have a lot of bolo games sandwiched around a few effective games. He is still 20 pounds away from having any chance to be consistently effective. BMK is BMK though I thinks his hands (in catching passes) are a bit improved. I have always criticized Rak has not having his motor running at all times. He seems a bit improved in that regards, but man, if really went 110% pedal to the metal at all times he could be a special player.

7. The frosh - I am very disappointed I did not get a look. It seems like there aren't many minutes available for Roberson in the frontcourt. From all I have heard, it seems like BJ really needs a year to get stronger. It sounds like Buss is a hustler and a hard worker, I hope he gets a shot for some minutes if Silent G doesn't step up his game.

8. D - Not where last year's D was, and it will probably never get to that level because the guards are much smaller, but it seems to have improved gradually over the course of the tourney, and hopefully, that trend will continue.

9. Coaching - Jimmy had em ready. As I previously posted, I thought his best move was the non-move when Trevor has those consecutive terrible TOs. Other than that, he was who he is, ie, he sticks to his Zone and his rotations. He definitely doesn't create many surprises. He is all about nuances from game to game.

Another great Jimmy move .. realizing he couldn't take the air out of the ball too early against these guys allowing us to trade baskets instead. I really can't recall ever seeing him do this before.
