Great post -- hits on a lot of themes I was thinking of while watching that game -- Strickland, Guthrie and the LBs, the adjustments defensively (though some BC injuries helped, certainly), etc. On the cheap shot on Stritz -- I felt the same way. Really odd to me that they didn't take action as unnecessary roughness b/c it's those types of plays that sort of capture the absurdity of football in some ways, right? I mean I get that we all love 'gamers' and want everyone to 'hustle til the whistle' on every play, but that's a touchback and everyone knows it. To sneak out and absolutely drop what could be a debilitating hit -- because that's what it is when you're the size of any of these dudes and you explode into an unsuspecting opponent -- is uncalled for and really dangerous/wreckless. Needs to be flagged. That said, didn't think the Cuse played like choir boys in this one either. The williams hit was a bad one adn dungey doesn't need to bounce a ball off a kid's helmet. It's a bad look. But, the reason I responded in general is that your point is a good one and, for my money, it's been a question lingering over this program since the move to the ACC in 2013. You make the move to a conference for money -- don't you then have to spend a bunch of money and compete in the arms race? I mean, what's the point otherwise? I personally think athletics spending is obscene but if you're going to be in that world you have to know when to plunk down some money and get into the game. The time is absolutely now for the program -- coaching salaries and facilities (housing included) are huge -- can they get it done? Do they want to get it done. Will be interesting to watch.
