Tired, gotta get some sleep. But some thoughts on the game... That game was not what I expected at all. Thought Gtown was going to run a traditional low post offense, feature Wahab, and try and get our bigs into foul trouble. Instead, the Hoyas rarely tried to get the ball inside and when they did, they usually passed it back to the perimeter to try and get open 3s. Wahab only ended up playing 20 minutes, as Ewing decided to play some skinny dude (Pickett I think) instead. Pickett was okay but Wahab could have really hurt us. Glad Ewing still doesn’t know how to coach. Thought JGIII had a very good game. Played within himself, did not force shots (maybe one from way outside the 3 point circle). Ran the offense well, made a lot of good passes and his defense wasn’t too bad either. Buddy had a solid game. Yes, he made some outside shots but he also hurt the Hoyas a lot driving to the basket. The offense was often run through him and he took advantage to make a number of excellent passes. Heck, he even hit the boards. Everyone did. Appeared to be a point of emphasis after the disastrous second half against Pitt. Props to Marek and Quincy for battling for position underneath all game. We have to have Quincy get 9 or 10 boards every game and for us to be successful, we need our centers to match that total. With Sidibe still out, that makes Marek needs to get a number like that every game against good teams for us to have a good chance to win. Marek didn’t get a lot of touches on offense but good things seemed to happen a lot when he touched the ball. Wish he got the ball in the half court offense a bit more. He can finish well, even against shot blockers. Getting better at drawing fouls now too. Griff and Q got into some foul trouble. I don’t think Griff ever really got into the flow...not his best game. At one point he pulled up and took a mid range jumper and nailed it. Hope to see more of his taking good percentage shots like that one in the future. Q was really bothered by the GTown bigs, who got a bunch of blocks against him, so he ended up with a bad shooting night. Had some foul trouble again...two games in a row. Not like him. Hope that goes away. Hit another 3. It is becoming evident he can legitimately shoot the 3 this year. Still want him in the paint most of the time but love his versatility. With Q and Griff in foul trouble, Big Bad Bobby Braswell got a lot of playing time in both halves. Thought he did decently on offense. Hit a 3, made some nice passes. Still isn’t rebounding worth a damn, which needs to change if he want to be part of the regular rotation. But he made his biggest impact on the game on defense, where he was all over the court, getting steals, cutting off players, etc. That hustle block was a big play that helped keep the game from getting scary close. The battle for PT for the 3rd forward between Bobby and Woody is going to be a good one. Hopefully Woody will be 100% soon. I assume that is why he did not play tonight. Thought Kadary did okay on his limited playing time. Georgetown played without their starting PG, and I thought JB might put the press on some to see how the young PG reacted. But with our forwards in foul trouble, that ended up being a tough thing to do. Glad JB didn’t try it. If he did Kadary would have played a big role. Seems to me like Kadary is playing a bit scared or tentative these days. Maybe JB yelled at him for forcing too many bad shots (legit). Hope he keeps attacking the rim, especially in transition. Good to see Georgetown remains the dirtiest program in college basketball. That Wahab kid got away with two cheap shots to SU player heads. Got Quincy with an elbow that took him to the ground fairly early in the game, then he took out one of Marek’s front teeth later in the game. Of course, neither was even called a foul. They join a long list of Orangemen bloodied by the scumbag Hoyas over the years. I am sure a lot of Georgetown basketball alums felt very proud watching Qudus carry on a special Georgetown tradition as they watched the games from various penitentiaries and correctional institutions throughout the US. No surprise the film the telecast featured of Georgetown players playing in the storied series with Syracuse included two Georgetown players punching Syracuse players. Hoya! Saxa! Tradition is important. I imagine staying within 10 points of Syracuse will be the highlight of Georgetown’s season. It will be interesting to see if COVID can save them from losing 20 games. Gonna be close I think. Look forward to the Georgetown-St John’s game. Will Georgetown get more cheap shot blows to the heads of Red Storm players, or will St John’s get more punches to the groin of Hoya players? Again, gonna be close.
