My Take

did anyone else notice this exchange? Thought it was kind of surprising to see a guy with not much experience yelling at a guy with a lot. But I think it shows how much the players have bought into playing quality defense. They are policing themselves.

I think it is pretty awesome.
it’s awesome and essential. I don’t see red getting up in their grill, so someone else has to light that fire. Doesn’t matter who as long as they respect and hold each other accountable.

I know it’s early, but I think this is the best defensive team since the Wes Johnson team.
The 2017-18 team finished top 10 defensively, fwiw. Their defensive numbers were good all year but really elevated in the post season. The offense that season was another season.

Agree.

But I wanted to discuss something that happened after a break in play. I think it was fairly late in the first half but it could have been early in the second.

Anyway, as the SU players walked off the court to their bench, Freeman walked over to George and started talking to him animatedly. He looked angry and It looked as though he was yelling at him.

Based on the timing, I suspect he was discussimg Nate’s defense, or lack there of.

SU had jus given up two easy baskets. One was when a Drexel player released early and got an Easter unchallenged layup. I believe it was George who was responsible for rotating back to prevent cherry picking baskets on the play. Then I think on their next possession, George lost his man and gave him a wide open 15 foot baseline jumper (it was their little guy), which he nailed.

Yes. It was on the broadcast. The announcers even commented on it.

rebounds that are gained in the box out areas you need to clean up. But they were missing many 3s bouncing out to 10-12 ft and we had good position but that also means they will be closer to the ball many times. Lets just control the routine rebounds and then see if we can get better at the long ones.

They are getting killed on tip drill rebounds… they are getting pinned inside under the hoop and out numbered. Unfortunately with a three guard lineup of Kingz, George, Anthony it’s gonna happen. They could easily fix it by starting white or Betsy at the three but would sacrifice too much offense. Our guards aren’t the most physical. The back breaker is giving up three offensive rebounds and then a 3.

If it continues do we see more Betsy less Kingz/Anthony… Betsy was in pretty early when he got hurt.

Yes. We saw it. Wasn’t sure what it was.
