I agree, simplify is a verb and not some rigid or frozen state. I felt like at end the second quarter they did simplify a bit and went back to their normal quick tempo offense and seemingly fewer new formations. I believe this came after the illegal substitution penalty which killed the nice field position after Hunt connected on a long ball with West. At the very least simplifying means the guys line up without thinking if they are in the right spot. You give them the best chance to succeed, and then you build on that and sprinkle in the more and more. You can simplify and be creative at the same time. One thing I always fall back on with the offense, and this is appropriate with #5 at the game yesterday, SU never really had a strong offense after #5 graduated until 2012. Marrone and Hackett learned a lot along the way about what they could and could not do at the college level. They adapted and became more flexible while remaining stable, and now they work in the NFL where they have more time with the players who are pros and Marrone and Hacket can be more complex if they choose. At the end of the day it's about giving the players the best chance to move the chains and put points on the board and, of course, get a quality education! Learning the difference between what one can change on a week-t0-week basis and the rest that one may want to implement but one has to let go to another day is an ongoing challenge. The defense looked played great. #3 going down disrupted Wake, but they failed to adapt. SU's defense was stout. I think Wake had zero first downs in the first quarter, and the defense played a complete game! They played hard until the end. This team always plays hard to the end. I saw no quit 2 weeks ago, and I saw the same thing yesterday when they could have relaxed and risked giving up big plays and possibly some points. They finished the job.
