I suppose I should start by apologizing for the lack of 'My Takes' for the last few games. There been a variety of reasons for this. Mostly, it is been because there's little positive to talk about.

Before talking about the game today however, I want to complement Crusty, cuseguy and subarney for throwing a great tailgate at MetLife Stadium. Salad job guys and much appreciated.

I guess I should also mention what happened last week when I was on the field for the UL game. first, props to Texan Mark for getting me on the field. I've never had a field pass before, and it was a very interesting experience. Not much to say about the game, but I will be laid a certain interesting experience. We stood next to a guy wearing a field pass with former player on it, so we knew he used to play for SU. He looked to be in his early 30s, very skinny, maybe 5 foot nine, perhaps 170 pounds. he wore glasses and a suit. Mark whispered to me 'he must've been a kicker. Who could it be? Could it be Shadle?'

His face was very familiar so it was frustrating. We wrecked our minds for five or 10 minutes before Mark told me 'I think I know who it is. He's going to be Troy Nunes?' Once he asked me, I knew he was right. We were both shocked at how small and light Troy is right now. Could it be that Marci drained them of all of his bulk? Inquiring minds want to know.

We had a wonderful tailgate this morning. Jeremy and now put out a great spread, featuring burgers, coneys, juice regular famous breakfast sandwiches, a delicious chili, but potatoes with ranch dressing and much more. Good to see many old friends and good to meet so many new people as well. There are too many to name so I will just say it was wonderful talking to you all of you.

The band was in fine form today, and had a bunch of interesting things going on. First let me give me the tube account: it was nine as expected. They're doing a nice ACC logo the face as well as the New York State outline and matching very well. At one point in the game, da maestro repeatedly played a section of horror music, which was repeated by the band, then da maestro again played a section of music, and again the band repeated. This went on for quite a while. Pretty cool and innovative.

At halftime, the SUMB performance was highlighted by a guest appearance by a renowned trombone player from the New York Philharmonic, who played a beautiful very involved piece of music, as the band marched to the motion of a trombone extending and coming back. Very cool.

I want to complement the Florida State fans who went to the game. They came in large numbers, and cheered their team quite loudly. I would've I would estimate that they had at least 3000 fans in attendance, A number that would change schools like Boston College, Connecticut and even Rutgers. Well done.

I ended up sitting next to Nycfsn fan, who of course is extremely knowledgeable about college basketball, but also knows his college football. He told me that he and young Bailey Evan talking about Steve Ishmael the talented Syracuse true fresh wide receiver, and both have been hoping for more touches for Steve today. I agreed with him on this. We were both happy to see the game plan include more looks for Steve,;this is something that has been needed for some time.

Let's talk about the game unit by unit. Will start with the offense. There was of course, a great focus on the offense this week, with the change in offensive coordinator and the new QBs. I was impressed with the work Lester did today. Thought his game plan was the best guys game plan we've had all season, no question about that. Better yet, I like his playcalling. Thought he did a nice balance of run plays and pass plays. Thought he threw the ball down the field how refreshing number of times. Thought he was clearly less predictable than his predecessor.it was, in my opinion, a very promising start.

I was pleased with the performance of both new quarterbacks. I thought that both quarterbacks played without fear, we're very aggressive, and were not intimidated at all.they made some mistakes to be sure, and hopefully will learn lessons about being careful with the ball, but they made a lot of place, and showed me reasons for optimism for the future.I really hope that Austin is okay, and will be able to play again the rest of the season. It will be a shame if he got his chance to play, and had it taken away almost immediately.

I thought the offense of line did very well against a talented FSU DL. I hope John Miller, who left the game in the second half and did not return, is going to be okay. They did a nice job with past biking, and opened up some nice holes for the running game as well.

Flemming quietly had his best game of his career, West again had a big play down the sideline, and I think today was Steve Ishmael's coming out party. Good to see these guys step up with AB and BE out.

Let's talk about the defense. I thought our basic philosophy was to keep the safeties back and give FSU all the short passes they wanted all game long. pretty sound strategy given the talent and balance between the teams. It was really striking to see how much bigger and faster FSU's skill people were compared to ours.I don't think we blitzed very much, but somehow our undersized defensiveline managed to put good pressure on Winston pretty consistently. If it wasn't for some very beneficial calls from the referees, unquestionable late hits, and I'm questionable passenger Ference, the game would've been much closer. It took a great effort by Winston to keep FSU's offense on track, scoring points regularly.

There were a lots of Syracuse the funders who played well. The first that comes to mind isBrandon Reddish, who is quietly having an all-conference season at CB. He was just terrific today. I thought I'd make a Robinson and Robert Welch were excellent at defensive end. I thought Wayne Williams and John Raymon were great at defensive tackle as well. I can't believe how well Raymen is playing so quickly after getting back on the field. Great to see WW playing close to his capabilities as well. Ron Thompson and Isaiah Johnson also continue to improve week by week.

That's a linebacker struggled a bit more, but they were up against him Reiko vacillates from the Seminoles. The same applies to the safeties, who had their hands full with a bunch of Seminoles, especially Nick O'Leary, a guy who will have a long career in the NFL.

Props to Riley Dixon, who had another fine game at punter. Props to cCole Murphy, who did well at placekicker. Thought the coverage units for pot returns and kick ass did quite well, given the extraordinary athletes they had to try and cover.

A loss is still a loss. SU is still in grave danger of not going to a bowl game. But a number of good things happened and for now anyway, hope remains alive that the season can be salvaged.

After the game, we had a nice tailgate. Props to Jeremy for enthralling the masses with Don Rickles like sarcasm and some imaginative storytelling. As always, it was enjoyable breaking down the game with knowledgeable friends. Let's hope next time, we have an opportunity to discuss a victory instead.

Thanks for the recap, Tom. One thing to remember in this loss is that our offense found a way to make things happen...against the number 1 team. Nobody left on the schedule will be that tough and our team knows they can play with FSU (at least in the second half).

Great job, as ever... but love the auto-corrects. Jeremy's wife Nell somehow came out "now," but my favorite was "passenger Ferrence"... who, I assume, is pass interference.

With this crowd you know it is going to be ""passenger Ferrence for the next few years.

Be sure to congratulate JSOrange97 for the MetLife tailgate as well. He played a big part.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun and we had a great time at MetLife. Sorry I missed this one, but be back in a few weeks.

Great take.

I thought both young QBs played well which is a credit to them and to Lester. Everyone on offense looked clear about assignments and executed well most of the time. SU was 50 percent with 3rd down conversions. I thought Long was well spoken after the game, and I hope Wilson is on the mend quickly. Good stuff.

Credit FSU for being able to throw to a FB 8 times for 97 yards. I thought the DL played well again. The LBs can play better at times, and the back end competed hard. It looked like later in the game SU was having more success defending the screen which is nice to see.

Looking forward to Wake. Go Cuse!

Great post and analysis; as always. I thought the play calling was excellent and moving from the every running back we have gets a few carries to featuring Gully was brilliant; RB's need enough carries to get into the flow.

God post. I think you cat ruptured the essay seance of the game.

This might be my new favorite trade it shun.
Saladly no old Chinese woman in this one. Still my fave writ.

I had a nice discussion with one of the more recognizable coaches after the game in the South Manley lot. Very, very nice guy and very appreciative that our group congratulated the team for a great effort.

The coach mentioned that he never complains about officiating but he felt that a number of bad calls really hindered SU's effort.

I specifically asked him why Kimble isn't getting any playing time. Coach told me that MK had a back injury in HS that the staff believed was completely healed. Obviously that isn't the case because the injury continues to hold him back. The coach told me what others have posted on this board, that when healthy, Kimble has freakish athletic ability. Easily the most athletic QB and one of the better athletes on the team.

For pure entertainment value, nothing beats:

Reiko vacillates

Excellent post! Your auto correct is on overdrive.
My favorite line - Thought the coverage units for pot returns and kick ass did quite well.

Thought of George Carlin there, "In football, they moved the hash marks; but the players found them and smoked them anyway."

BTW, to update on the Field Pass: Troy Nunes is living in the Pittsburgh area and working with NFL players and managing their money. He seems to be doing well. I also met Joe Donnelly on the sideline, it looks like he dropped 20-30lbs. I couldn't remember if he played in '05 or just during P's reign. I asked him if he was on one of GRob's team? The other players all laughed and he said no way. Got to meet James Mungro too...he looks the same but probably 30lbs heavier. Got to meet Dr. Baker, Sr. what a nice man so glad he represented our team all those years.

Glad to have you back with analysis, this is a post game necessity.

There were more than 3,000 FSU fans. Probably closer to 5,000-6,000.

I guarantee most didn't attend the school and the closest they've been to Tallahassee is Disney World.

I thought all of the auto corrects were football terms I did not know. Phew!!!

Do they expect him to return to 100%
