Tomcat, very nice writeup as always! Couldn't make it to the tailgating. A few follow-ups to your stadium and other non-game comments. Yeah, its hard to get a direct flight to Louisville unless you are in a major city. Kind of like Syracuse I guess. The airport is nice though and not so many people running all over the darn place like at a major airport or hub. UPS has an air hub here though. All the seats in the football stadium are actual seats with seatbacks (I think), no benches. I think they are pretty good shape, but I guess they are getting a little worn. There was construction going outside the closed end of the stadium. Usually, it looks nicer than what it did yesterday. The open end zone is nice, I was down there before on the field behind the goal post for an event once. That will change when they expand the stadium a 2nd time. with seats behind that end zone. As for the fans. Unfortunately, this is not like most SEC games where all the fans always seem like they are in their seats and are loud all the time (do they ever get food or go to the bathroom?). Some fans (especially the young crowd) here roam the perimeter of the stadium, as more of a social event. Many fans also congregate on a social-gathering landing area with beer readily available at the top of the closed end of the stadium. For these reasons, it looks like on TV there is less attendance than there is. In fact, it is often sold out. Strike it up to the available beer at the game I guess! Maybe it was the fact that the game was not that close yesterday that it was not that loud in there, you are right. But I have been to rival close games where the place was rocking. There is a student section down low on other end of the stadium and next to the band. You are also correct in that most UofL fans are very cordial. BTW, the abbreviation "UofL" is used, not UL, I guess because down the road, they are called UK, and UofL certainly doesn't want to be like them! Ha ha. Yes, the football and baseball stadiums are next to each other. And literally just down the street from the baseball stadium is Churchill Downs (KY Derby). Plan your trip here for Derby Day or Oaks Day (the day before) - great fun. You can see Churchill Downs from the high up seats on the visitors side of the football field near the closed end of the stadium. The campus is very close, between the stadium and downtown. Like everyone here, I was disappointed that SU didn't do better. When they got up 10-7, I thought hmmm, maybe they will do pretty well. Then things imploded. Oh well. It's basketball season!
