Got to the stadium about 10am and was on the sideline's pre- game. Found out that we were a little banged up. Spent some time with a few of the injured kids and i think we have all of the back game after Gate. Pregame Fran was really spending time with Gill. Lots of time pumping him up. Really pushing him to excel. Had a couple of minutes to visit with Fran and a couple of the coaches and suffice to say they were expecting a very tough game. Lots of respect for UConn and the respect was real. Especially for the coaching staff and their QB.
As to the game we were out of Synch from the start. I thought that Nixon was off as well. Not sure why we didn't continue to use the middle of the field as Dan was open all day long. What a nice game by him. As to Steve he was off. Held the ball way too long and missed a ton of plays. I don't think that he has the timing down with the receivers yet and is afraid to throw them open or throw to spots, hence he ends up holding it too long. Personally, i would limit his reads to two and a check down or throw away. He needs to get that clock going in his head and play to it.
The D continues to worry me as well. Kids still didnt tackle as well as they should and im really worried about the play calling. The last drive by the pups to tie the game up was really piss poor. Not sure what is going to happen but i do believe it will be addressed.
This team is very young in game snaps and most importantly in working together. Lots of new pieces that need to gel. Gate is coming up at the right time for health both physical and mental. I believe in Steve long term and so do the coaches. I think he gets it together and hopefully Nixon makes a few adjustments now that he has a few of Steves games under his belt.
Great comeback. A win is a win.
