Presumeably to formally acknowledge that Franklin has beed named head football coach.As long as its not anyone that was there during the mess years. Regardless I could not care less.

That's the first I've heard anything about Franklin being accused of covering up for his players.

Meh. I generally think that journalists are the lowest form of human life, whose main achievement is making lawyers look altruistic by comparison...I'm certain some idiot somewhere would have made a big deal if Hopkins got hired at USC by trying to tie him to the Bernie Fine (non-)story in an effort to draw attention to him/herself.

Considering the exceptionally low standards and ethics journalists have, I sincerely doubt there is a person alive that Penn State could hire, that wouldn't result in "controversy". Or some athletics-hating band of professors that wouldn't complain about the hire and create the illusion of legitimacy to the "controversy".

I have no idea if there's any "fire" to the Franklin story -but need way more than the few attention whore professors and journalists pouting about it right now to even start to give a crap.
