Bud and the Manchild were talking about using Nassib on running plays. Manchild didn't think much of the idea, saying that "he's just a passer".

I think Nassib is a mobile quaterback. He's no RG3 but he can move and that can open things up. He's not an option guy, (which the coaches must agree with because they never uswed it). He's a strong guy but I don't like him being used as if he were a fullback, running up the middle to take on 300 pound linemen and 230 pound linebackers. He's not going to last 12 games doing that.

I'd like to see him in roll-out plays, maybe with a fake to a running back going in the other direction and with Nassib having the option to run or pass. I remember a big run he had down the sidelines vs. Washington in 2010. He looked like he could be a weapon on a play like that. Marrone said he didn't want to run him because he didn't have confidence in his back-ups. It's time to use Nassib on plays like that, not wrestling matches with linebackers.

Agree-I remember that run against UW and he looked Jake Locker-esque on it and almost scored

I don't think Nassib is mobile at all, but using him on designed runs is part of the offense and can be effective.

Marrone says he has more confidence in the QB back-ups. Maybe, when we see one of them in a game . . .

Until then, Nassib should be a runner only on the odd occasion, when he rolls out, and the opponents give him some space.

Yes, but he ran too many times on Saturday that were highly ineffective. I start to worry about him getting injured. He already took a big shot to the stomach against NW.

i think nassib has good speed but little quickness if that makes any sense.

zone read runs in a good passing offense could have huge gains up the gut for him like a fullback i think the fear of injury was why we didn't do it before. i wonder if this all means that hunt is ready to go if need be.

Is Hunt the main back-up?

I think he is more mobile than people think. Definitely adequate. But even Ryan said in the presser that he prefers to "stay upright." He's got some mobility which is a good thing but I'd prefer fewer designed QB run plays.

Someone used the term "drunken sailor" to describe Nassib's running style the other day. Haven't heard anything more accurate than that. Nevertheless, he can be very effective; Nassib's not going to outrun anyone, but he can pick his spots and keep the defense honest.

That shot wasn't when he was running. Many QB injuries come from when they aren't moving and are an easy target. If the QB is a threat to run, it forces the D to be a little more patient for fear of overrunning the QB and letting him run for a big gain.

I know it wasn't, but I'm saying he already has tender ribs...

does what he has to do---poor foot speed---but he does what is necessary

Wasn't it posted on this board a while back that Nassib was timed pretty fast straight line?

Agree he doesn't appear to have quick feet.

Someone on another thread said he runs like Herman Munster. That might be a little much but he sure ain't pretty when he runs.

I think he's hesitant when he runs, which isn't a bad thing given the lack of experienced depth behind him.
