After being fired by Jacksonville, our former OC lands on his feet as OC for...wait for it...the freaking Green Bay Packers. They lead the NFL in points, yards per play and are 2nd in total yards and 1st downs.

Even though he doesn't always call the plays, pretty good for the ole resume.

He gave us a good last season. Best of luck to him.

One wonders what would have happened had Gross picked the OC instead of the DC. I think he was just too young at the time. Timing in life is everything.

The guy is a great dude, a stud, and one of the best offensive minds out there. Remember, he is doing this instead of going to medical school and being a doc. We had a good one and that was part of the value that dm brought. Alot of the assistants were just flat out studs that coached like crazy and also related to the kids. Miss that. We schemed and played with the best of them. People didn't like dougie, but you know what; it was a time that we had some fun and got to know our assistants, know them well, learn personalities, and man the kids loved it. It's a different time.

That's a great question and I think a matt Campbell or riley dixon or Sean McVeigh is born. its that close, sensitive, and that dependent on getting one break in life. This guy has "IT" . He really friggin does. Met him and our stud DL line coach at the time whom I also loved. Met them in stanard lot after they parked and were walking in for a nooner in November. Most tailgaters didn't even recognize them. Funny when certain moments hit us diehards and nutjobs realizing.....geeez, most casual fans have no idea who coaches this team.

That said, wouldn't have it any other way. Love and respect all on this board and would never want to be that casual fan in the lot with coaches in proximity, but with NO IDEA !:);) Thank you for all you guys who are as crazy as me and love this sport and team and respect the fact we DO have a p5 team up here in central NY. it really is a blessing, one that is often overlooked . I know we chat and don't get along and take shots at each other. But, hell, he have fun and are respectful and do it over the P5 team we love and support. There are plenty of teams in the nation that cant have such conversations over p5 teams, or teams that significant.

He was a hip hop dance instructor before coaching. "One of the best offensive minds out there" is a bit of a stretch. Glad he has found a good job but you are all over the map man.

If you're the Syracuse AD and your decision has come down to flipping a coin, I think you should always pick the offense guy.

Picking a head coach isn't something Gross should put on the resume. Thankfully he was talked into Marrone.

It's really not a different time. We still have very good assistants who coach like crazy that the kids relate to. Both groups of assistants have gotten good results and both have dropped the ball too. This lionizing of that era is nuts. This board we ready to fold on Dougie in year 3 after we beat WVU and then crapped the bed the rest of the year.

As right about Marrone as you were on Shafer

If Nate was still here he’d definitely be calling Hackett’s number. ;)

I wish Gilbert would do the same.

In fairness, we got slammed with injuries in that losing stretch and that was not on the HC.

Might have been a good thing for Hackett. The cupboard was bare and Terrel Hunt`s injuries would have plagued him also. Transitioning to the ACC was another speed bump.

As I recall, everyone was calling for his head his 1st year as OC (2011) when we collapsed due to injuries and finished 5-7 (6-1 in the BE). The next year he was a hero. I don't think he would have had a long leash.

Still, hard not to speculate what might have been.
