Fascinating. Much of the national media coverage does not mention that Daryl Gross is out. It is all focused on Jim Boeheim intending to retire in three years.

Gross is treated as less than irrelevant in the coverage. Much of what I have seen, heard and read... doesn't even mention him.

It shows what the world thinks of Syracuse sports in general... and Syracuse basketball in particular.

How about Pete Thamel, a Syracuse guy, being critical of the school in SI? Never would have thought it but Adam Schein is a much more loyal alum than Thamel.

30 minutes after the Chancellor's memo was released, the JB retirement was mentioned on AP headline news...Dr Gross was also mentioned but as an afterthought.

Thamel's piece was unnecessarily harsh, IMO. Disappointing, but $%# him.

I heard someone on XM today, can't remember who, but it was 2 bozos on I think the college sports channels, discuss this briefly but mostly they discussed the Chancellor's letter- crowing about how clearly JB and not Kent (not gonna try to spell his last name) really runs Syracuse.

Then they exposed their ignorance and agenda by taking Chancellor Kent to task since "all of this happened on his watch". It'd be funny if it weren't so wrong and so swallowed whole by their listeners.

Here is the headline in the Albany Times Union echoing what you are saying and you have to go down to the eighth paragraph for an afterthought comment about Daryl Gross which should be the real story. I heard someone call Mike Francesa's radio show today regarding Boeheim's punishment and his comment , to paraphrase, was that "Boeheim is 70 years old and if people thought that he was going to coach until 100 they are nuts. There is no punishment". He is one of few that actually understood what happened today.

Headlines sell papers and get page clicks.

Nobody has even mentioned we appealed. That would actually be good reporting.

And when and if we get a reduction in the sanctions it'll get buried, and ESPN will devote 15 seconds to it.

TK & Wilby gave JB a lot of love on PTI and again with their quick hit with Lindsey on SC. Only DG reference was by Mike when he said "they fired the AD."

That is disappointing to hear. Part of the reason I like Sirius channel 91 is because the coverage is unbiased and pretty solid. Brando, Mark Packer, Horowitz, etc. do a great job, imo. They have a sidekick douche like Tom Brennan occasionally but whatever. I know I recently heard Bobby Cremins speak very positively of JB last week when he was paired with Packer I think.

Did people think he was coaching 4 or 5 more years?

Headline might as well have read:

Boeheim to eventually retire

I honestly thought, prior to all the sanctions, JB would have retired after the '16-'17 season. That would be the Battle/Moyer class and allow him to coach Team USA and hopefully have one more title and one more gold medal (thinking optimistically).

Nobody ever pays attention to the man behind the curtain. Can you name the other 14 BB coaches in the ACC? Now name the other 14 AD's?
Lol so true. The "next AD" thread was one of the most painful to read!

I saw that part of the Francesca show too and was stunned. How does someone who doesn't even follow ncaab have a better take than the stooges on the cbs podcast?

i wonder how much of the negative media coverage has to do with the insufferability of a large percentage of younger newhouse alumni
