He did so much for that franchise. Balmer recruited him to resign by staging a fake jersey retirement ceremony and how he would be a life long Clipper and franchise legend. Blake bought in and signed then Balmer traded him to Detroit 6 months later.

That’s incredibly cold. You can say that you don’t think it’s a big deal but that stuff sticks with players quite a bit. Players want to feel like they can trust that their team will take care of them and Clippers did the opposite to arguably the most important player in their franchise history.

And I don’t know if you can call a team with 2 of the top 5-7 players in the world and $32M in cap space a team of the past.
