(give or take a few months - depends on your birthdate) In the case of the NHL, if you are an American the automatic age eligibility will typically enter in the year before you enter college or after you completed one year in the NCAA. But as UD notes those are only rights ... they never sign a contract with the NHL team while they are playing in the NCAA after being drafted.
