This year I will again be computing the top 25 NBA players in terms of total “Net Points”, (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks – missed field goals – missed free throws- turnovers –fouls committed) and breaking down their stats per 48 minutes, (since that’s the length of an NBA game). I’ll also compute their “Offensive Efficiency”, (points minus missed field goals and free throws), and “Floor Game” (Net Points minus Offensive Efficiency). The players are ranked by total Net Points because a player with a superior rate who missed games had no impact on those games. A player with a less productive rate who played in those games did have an impact on them. I’ll also keep track of how former Syracuse players are doing.
One difference from past years: instead of making monthly reports I decided to just do an end-of-the season summary. Many players were out due to the pandemic for certain games, as well as injuries and ‘load management’. But all teams played 72 games so I will continue to rank them by total net points: no matter what their rate of production was, their impact on the game they did not play was zero. I’m ranking the players based on the total statistical contribution they made to their teams.
Glossary: TNP = Total net Points, M = minutes per game, Per 48 minutes: P = points, R = rebounds A= assists, S = steals, B = blocks, MFG = missed field goals, MFT = missed free throws, TO = turnovers, PF = personal fouls, NP = Net Points, OE = Offensive Efficiency, FG = Floor Game

Comment: Who is the next ex-Orangeman to crack the Top 25? Jerami Grant’s numbers resemble DeMar DeRozan’s except for the assists and missed shots. He also only played in 54 games. Jerami’s field goal shooting percentages declined from .478 to .429 overall, .537-.473 on two pointers and .389-.350 for threes: He’s getting more defensive attention now that he’s the #1 guy. I assume that what we are seeing from Carmelo is the most we will see at this point in his career. Oshae Brissett actually has the highest NPper40 of any of our guys but that’s in just 21 games. He’s shooting better than Jerami at .483/.548/.423 but he’s also the 7th leading scorer on his team, which, incredibly, had four guys average 20ppg, (Victor Oladipo only played 9 games). So he’s not getting the defensive attention that Jerami is now facing. MCW was a rookie of the year but he’s not turned out to be a top 25 type of player. I don’t think he was ever better than he was in his debut game when he had 22p 7r 12a 9s vs. the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat. I thought Elijah Hughes had some potential and maybe he does but he’s a marginal NBA player right now.
