This year I will again be computing the top 25 NBA players in terms of total “Net Points”, (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks – missed field goals – missed free throws- turnovers –fouls committed) and breaking down their stats per 48 minutes, (since that’s the length of an NBA game). I’ll also compute their “Offensive Efficiency”, (points minus missed field goals and free throws), and “Floor Game” (Net Points minus Offensive Efficiency). The players are ranked by total Net Points because a player with a superior rate who missed games had no impact on those games. A player with a less productive rate who played in those games did have an impact on them. I’ll also keep track of how former Syracuse players are doing. I’ll update them each month.
Glossary: TNP = Total net Points, M = minutes per game, Per 48 minutes: P = points, R = rebounds A= assists, S = steals, B = blocks, MFG = missed field goals, MFT = missed free throws, TO = turnovers, PF = personal fouls, NP = Net Points, OE = Offensive Efficiency, FG = Floor Game

Comments: Davis, Durant and Antetokounmpo continue to vie for the crown LeBron James may be giving up in the near future a s the game’s best player. But suddenly Joel Embiid seems to be crowding them a bit. Whoever expected that? James Harden is starting to move back up the charts, (from 23rd after November to 12th after December). Russell Westbrook has missed some games and his scoring is down or he’d be higher in the ranking.
As usual, there isn’t an SU player within shouting distance of the Top 25 and none on a team likely to make the finals. We’ve had 36 former SU football players play in the Super Bowl and 3 former SU basketball players play in the NBA finals- Billy Gabor in the early 50’s, our former police chief, Dennis DuVal for 5 minutes in 1975 and Marty Byrnes for 1 minute in 1980. No SU player that’s every played for us in the Dome Era has ever made the NBA finals, despite our consistent team success. .
