Don't totally disagree but I think the counter-argument would be that Simmons is at the center of whatever you're hoping to accomplish for the forseeable future. In other words, we desperately want to win but we want to be a legit title contender next year and Simmons trying to work his way through his struggles -- which were significant -- is more important than McConnell giving us a better chance to win a particular game or two. It's a frustrating viewpoint to stomach as a fan but it's probably the right thing for the organization. At least that's how I read it.

I'd also suggest that benching simmons isn't benching 'a guy' for that organization. It's benching, essentially, THE guy (or one of THE two guys). Guys like Reddick or Covington or even Saric is understandable but this is a dude who put up like 16/8/8 for the season and to whom you're handing the keys the next four or five years at a minimum. I can understand an organization being sensitive to that fact.
