Anyone have a good scouting report of what kind of team they are?

Looking at their stats, they don't seem like they shoot a ton of threes, but are pretty good at the ones they take.

Three guys over 40%, another two over 36%.

Play 8-9 guys it looks like?

Doesn't seem like they shoot free throws that well.

Can they board?

Their best player left the game last night with a knee injury, not that I want to see anyone hurt, but it helps us.

they're a weird team - they try and play Keats' customary pressure D, and do produce alot of TOs but overall they're not a good defensive team. Very streaky, uneven, commit alot of TOs themselves. You know that Miami team we (and most others) destroyed? NC St lost at home to them. Keats is trying to work in 3-4 talented freshman guards. Manny Bates is prob the best shot blocker/rim protector in the league.
As Brian notes above, Devon Daniels is their best player and he went out last night with what looked like a significant knee injury - so if he's out the only shooter I'd fear is Braxton Beverly, he could get going and hurt us.

*Edit: KenPom: # 70 overall, 63rd in offensive efficiency and 88th in defensive - has us as a 68% probability to win on Sunday at a predicted 5pt margin.

Guaranteed to make 5 of them.

Funderburk can give us trouble insider. 6'10" and 225. Looks like he missed some time early but is rounding into shape.

With our performance this year I'm not sure if anything in NC State's resume matters. If we shoot well, we'll win, if not (with the exception of Va. Tech) we'll lose.

Wow, that's fairly thin. And yet... Much larger than Marek.

hear what you're saying, but your VT parenthetical is actually more than a parenthetical - actually shows that this team can win by playing solid defense and scoring in the paint, without bombing 3s - dominating a legit good team

They still have the little guard who bombs threes against us. You have to play him five feet beyond the three point line. I guarantee he will make threes with us just looking at him instead of getting out and guarding him.

Last time we beat them was 4 years ago when John Gillon went bonkers. We were down 16 with under 9 minutes left.

Most efficient game we will ever see in our lives. Guaranteed.

Love that game.

John Gillon:
9 of 10 from 3.
14 of 14 from the line.
43 points...9 assists.
NC State never seemed to realize they had to cover him outside until the last shot of regulation...and he hit it anyway to send the game to OT.

The funny thing is NC State shot almost 44% from 3.
Pretty darn good.
The Orange were almost 58%.

Pitt had half their team out including Champagnie, their best player and maybe the best in the ACC, and still beat us in the Dome wiping out a 16-point deficit. We better come ready to play and take nothing for granted, this SYR team can be vulnerable to any team if they continue to be bricklayers from 3 and get slammed on the boards.
