I gotta say JB is the only guy with more than 40 wins that doesn't average atleast 2 wins per appearance.

That could also be because that jb has taken some teams that others wouldn't have taken to the tournament, to the tournament. There are coaches that do more with great teams than jb does. But very few coaches do more with less than jb does. There are only 8 guys that have more final fours than he does. That isn't bad. I would also add that every coach save Wooden and Calhoun and Olsen, inherited programs that were already good when they were brought in to coach. And, every guy on that list is a or was a great coach.

awesome.

hes taken some real crappy teams into the tourney then.

probably enjoyable roller coaster season with lesser talent than others.

That was my point. Jb takes bad teams to the tournament. It really is a strength of his. He finds a combo that will work.

Obviously JB has achieved is basically what he should have over the course of his career event.
What this list tells me JB doesn't recruit enough elite talent since 87 to 90.
When he recruited elite talent in 2003 he won it all.

I think we should be attempting to recruit more top 10 recruits. If we had more elite talent I think JB can get another ring.

I agree. And the thing that bothers me is that we don't even try for those kids. We just concede that we can't get them. And really, we never have. Randy Edsall recruited Billy Owens for us when he recruited Mike Owens for the football team. Without that, Billy Owens ends up at UNC. And Dave Bing really recruited DC for us. We need rainmakers in the ass't coach department. Jb is a great recruiter but he doesn't go out on the road. And when he does, he always goes with an ass't. With our current recruiting, we just need one more blue chipper in every class and we would be off to the races.

We all remember that a JB team didn't win more than 1 tourney game in a season until 1987, so that will bring his average down a lot. From 1987 on, 5 FFs, 2 Elite 8s, 1NC. Not bad, and not done with 7 McD All Americans on the roster every year

I am not saying JB sucks. I am saying we need more elite talent.
We get top 50-100 kids we don't go after the top 10 difference makers.

Our system blended with an elite top 10 guy can do major damage.
Final Fours are great we just gotta get that 2nd ring for JB to join this list.
Most NCs.
1. John Wooden 10 (UCLA)
2. Mike Kryzewski 5 (Duke)
3. Adolph Rupp 4 (Kentucky)
T-4. Bob Knight 3 (Indiana)
T-4. Jim Calhoun 3 (Connecticut)
T-6. Branch McCracken 2 (Indiana)
T-6. Henry Iba 2 (Oklahoma State)
T-6. Phil Woolpert 2 (San Francisco)
T-6. Ed Jucker 2 (Cincinnati)
T-6. Denny Crum 2 (Louisville)
T-6. Dean Smith 2 (North Carolina)
T-6. Roy Williams 2 (North Carolina)
T-6. Billy Donovan 2 (Florida)
T-6. Rick Pitino 2 (Kentucky, Louisville)

problem is the most of the guys they've been getting are good enough to be late first rounders, and with the current CBA it's in their best move to go ASAP. SU needs to commit to the high end one and dones or do the Nova system and get 4 year guys you can develop. SU is stuck in the middle right now.

Izzo 1 and done last year and done in the 2nd round this year. Has won only one title and that was 17 years ago. Shows how tough it is to win in the NCAAT.
Imagine how many titles Izzo might have if he recruited elite talent.

Oh I wasn't calling you out, Alsacs, and I totally agree on that. We are Syracuse we can get elite kids if we go for it

No player that has spent 4 years at Michigan State has never not gone to a Final Four since Tom Izzo has been HC.

He has flameouts for sure but attacking the guy doesn't do anything to help JB.

We are so close to another title. We just need to recruit top end guy and we can do it.

That used to be true until 2014 when they got beat by Uconn in the elite 8, their 2014 class never been to a final four.

Yeah...nobody attacked Izzo. My point was it's extremely difficult to win in the NCAAT. Coach K and Pitino didn't make it past the 2nd round this year either.

Last year was the first time he has ever been upset in the tourney, this year just getting to the 2nd round with all the injuries and lack of talent he had is a pretty good accomplishment.
