its not only the 5th yr.. its the fact you cant play as a grad student.. so if you were SO you lost the end of the that yr and lost all of the Jr yr and then played this yr as a SR.. you got 2.5 yrs and now as a 5th yr still still cant play anyway.

Sophomores played a whole year. They shut down the tournament, but the kids got a full regular season.

Its more than just a bball thing though. Lax/baseball/hockey lost the end of the yr too

i think that is often an overlooked aspect on some of this. Hoops players got that year in, especially those who weren't going to the NCAA tourney.
