NCAA denies UCONNS APR waiver

The boneyard is outraged. The NCAA has a "vendetta" against UConn.

Got this email today. Not even sure how I got on the mailing list - probably from ordering SU_UConn tickets in a previous season. I took offense at the opening line.

susan herbst sure gets her name out there alot doesnt she? does uconn have an ad yet?

Funny how it takes the NCAA weeks on end to clear Ryan Boatright but two days on this. What a coincidence.

They're really freaking lucky that their hoops title from last season hasn't been vacated already.

Really...

Boatright was an investigation, no investigating is involved with a waiver.

They cleared him twice. Then they decided to look again. They messed around with the kid.

When you have new information come forth from a guy directly involved with Boatright you'd like the NCAA to ignore it?

Boatright's mom screwed him, not the NCAA.

The NCAA not finding this crap earlier isn't their fault? Obviously his mom is to blame as well, but it's really sad that an ex-BF had to alert them to the stuff. It's not like they have Swiss bank accounts and Land Rovers.

From boneyard

"The NCAA definitely has it out for UConn. I understand UConn's athletic department and Calhoun are also to blame for this mess, but the fact that the NCAA can change the rules as they please simply because they want to fu*k with a school is beyond ridiculous. The rules beforehand were that if you do not meet the score of 900, you are docked two scholarships. Suddenly UConn works around these rules to land Drummond and now not meeting the requirements leads to a postseason ban? If you can't see something fu*ked up about that then I don't know what to tell you."

:rolling:

It's not their fault if they didn't have the information. UConn could have played Boatright if they wanted to.

Actually, it is. Know how they got it? They asked. Why did they wait to ask?

NEVERMIND the ridiculous double jeopardy/ex-post facto at work with the APR ban.

This board shouldn't be throwing stones at anyone based on APR considering there's the possibility this happens to us, especially since we lost two scholies in 2009-2010 because of it.

I completely agree with you.

Can someone explain to me why this can not and will not happen at SU? I need the peace of mind. Let's be real, while the SU basketball program has had it's academic jewels (e.g. Craig Forth, Kueth Duany), we're not exactly a program of Rhodes Scholars.

APR does not punish you for leaving for the NBA unless you leave in bad academic standing. Ever since Devo/Harris/Flynn left we've been pretty good. Transfers is what killed UConn, of which we've had none (besides Riley).

That was only 2 years ago, so I guess we've been pretty good considering only 2 players have left since then (Rick/Dash). If Dion, Scoop, and Kris stop going to classes after the season's over because they are going to the league/try to get in the league, we're in the same boat as UConn.

No way Scoop or Kris stop going to classes...

Based on what? They might seem like great kids but maybe they want to work on getting into the league so they go to camps and don't go to class.

What league is Scoop getting into exactly? And I'm pretty sure KJo wants to finish his degree while he's at it, 2nd round draft pick is no guarantee of future income.

We should be fine for now... Melo and Dion are the big concern. Hopefully they get their classes done.

How many college senior basketball players do you hear of who don't graduate? KrisJo 4 months left after taking classes for 3 1/2 years, I highly doubt he doesn't finish.

Also Scoop graduated last year I believe anyway.
