The ACC has been told Univ of Miami will lose an average of 3 scholarships a year for 3 years; some coaches involved will be suspended for a few games...and other small stuff. But nothing that will hurt the program any further.

It's Good to Be 'Cuse!! The Order of the 'Cuse Orange...

I get that what's good for Miami is good for the ACC...and what's good for te ACC is good for Syracuse. But that ruling is

If there was ever a situation where a team deserved to get smacked down, this was it. The NCAA is a paper tiger.

hey its not like guys got a free dish of pasta, nothing evil like that.

What happened at Miami was serious. No question. However, the NCAA did this to themselves. They were in a lose-lose here. What the NCAA people did during their investigation was just as despicable. It's very hard to lay the hammer down when you have dirty fingerprints all over the place...and the public knows it. To create a major story only puts the NCAA's mess back in the spotlight, and you know they don't want that. Any harsh penalties would have looked hypocritical in this case and could have cost Emmert (?) his position.

Look at it this way, Miami was just given the SEC / Ohio State treatment. Although I loathe Miami as a rival, equal justice was served, and the NCAA is embarrassed either way.

Well they self-imposed bowls the last two years plus the conference championship. I personally believe the punishment should be scholarships, Tressel rule for all coaches/AD involved, ban any boosters for a time, and finally if they make a bowl then their winnings should be donated to a charity. Hit them in the administration, the coaching and the $(bowl and boosters). That will have universities cracking down harder on their teams.

With Miami's self imposed sanctions, they shouldn't have even lost scholarships after what the NCAA did. Not to mention how long and drawn out this was.

Slap on the wrist.

We should never have to worry about being seriously penalized by the NCAA.

They don't have the balls.
Yup. Thank God we're not Cleveland St.

No its code for tasty Italian food at Grimaldis on Erie Blvd ( No longer exists )
Oh yeah, forgot all about that one

I disagree. These aren’t criminal proceeding and due process. What Miami was doing ranks right up there with SMU in my opinion. The hammer should’ve come down.

Remember the good old days - $50 in a xmas card and some free food at grimaldis'?

Well, the NCAA tried to make them criminal proceedings, they tried to depose witnesses with the attorneys from the Shapiro case...

Only the NCAA could make Miami look like the victim.

No sense in getting worked up about it. This is just the state of the NCAA today.

Good for the ACC I guess, if you think that's a silver lining in this mess. They get a meaningful FSU-Miami matchup, a meaningful VT-Miami matchup, and then an interesting conf championship matchup either way.

NCAA is really throwing down the gauntlet these days.

And Michigan has a trainer spotting players outside of normal workout times...

Been waiting on this one for quite awhile. This will hurt Louisville recruiting

@McMurphyESPN
.@DarrenHeitner reported he received 2-year show cause penalty RT @CroweBoi: @McMurphyESPN any word on Clint Hurtt?

What will hurt Louisville more is the prospect of losing Bridgewater and Strong to the NFL.

But you can bet Jurich has a back-up plan in place if necessary and that he learned from the Kragthorpe misfire.

Cheers,
Neil

Remember the NCAA is still looking at our basketball program. Can wait.

Arb, is exactly right the NCAA did Miami fairly. The loss of 9 scholarships is a decent penalty considering the fact that Shapiro probably committed NCAA violations, but the NCAA's conduct of using one of attorneys working the case to get discovery for the NCAA was a joke. In any criminal matter that would have resulted in attorney sanctions and the case likely being dropped. I think Miami self-imposing a 2 yr bowl ban for mediocre teams helped their case they would have been beaten by FSU in the ACC title game last year, but smartly took the bowl ban. Miami-Virginia Tech along with Clemson-Florida State are helping to improve and rehabilate the ACC football brand nationally.

Agree. They should have been hammered. The NCAA is useless when it comes to comes to compliance. They must be getting paid off.
