Four student-athletes punched their tickets to Eugene and three more advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective events on Thursday, to highlight day one of the NCAA East Preliminary.
The Orange had the deepest 10k field on the men's side, with four student-athletes competing, with Colin Bennie (30:05.59) taking 10th and Philo Germano (30:05.84) finishing 12th to secure their berths in the NCAA Championship.
On the women's side, Shaylyn Tuite clinched her place in the NCAA Championship, crossing the line in sixth with a time of 34:24.98. Margo Malone, a USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the event last season, will return as well, finishing 11th (34:37.73).
Both Syracuse competitors in the 1500-meters won their heats to automatically advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. Adam Palamar (3:46.62) and Joel Hubbard (3:48.56) will each look to punch their ticket to Eugene on Saturday.
Winston Lee will also be in the quarterfinals of the 100-meters, he finished the race in 10.51 seconds to advance to Saturday. Shaina Harrison finished in 11.82 seconds on the women's side, failing to advance.
