Your poi t is valid but it lacks full consideration. Mike already pays the schools money to be the schools brand. SU just re-upped with Nike. Now you are suggesting Nike pay more for each kid they want to endorse their products. In reality, Nike air will simply pay less to the schools, disincetivising the schools from passing your proposal. Remember, the school's task is to keep all things equal for all athletes. See Title IX. Scheming a way around Title IX will have far reaching negative effects. The issue is far more complex than a simple two or three line solution. I am for a system which awards the better players more revenue in lieu of the use of their name/likeness. However, focusing on the kid alone is never going to resolve the issue. Schools have a say, the NCAA, Nike/UA/etc. have a say and will talk with real dollars. The issue his not a simple issue in a vacuum, there are too many parties involved for this to be a simple decision. Denying the simple fact that athletes are getting a scholarship worth $65k, plus stipend, plus gear, plus special dining privileges, all tax free means these kids are getting the near the equivalent of $100k/ year. The average family household income is about $62K/year. The kids are already getting a significant benefit for playing sports. It's not as if they leave school with $250,000 in debt. Changes will be made to the system but most likely, we will all be less than happy.
