Nebraska record-setting quarterback Adrian Martinez, a three-time captain, entered the NCAA's football transfer portal Thursday.

Martinez, who is listed as a graduate transfer in the portal, has made 38 starts for the Huskers over his four-year career, including the first 11 games this year before a shoulder injury sidelined him for last week's finale against Iowa. He underwent surgery Nov. 24.

"I don't think that decision will take too long," Nebraska coach Scott Frost said Nov. 24 when asked about Martinez's future plans. "I want what's best for the program and definitely want what's best for Adrian."

22d

Martinez served as a captain in each of the past three seasons, and he holds Nebraska career records for total offense (10,792), completions (670) and 250-yard passing games (16). He also holds single-season records for completion percentage (71.5 in 2020) and games with 300 or more yards of total offense (7 in 2018).

"The University of Nebraska will always be a place I can call home," Martinez wrote on Twitter. It has been an honor and a privilege to represent the N for 4 years. ... I will always be a Nebraska Cornhusker at heart and a proud Alum."

Martinez, initially a Tennessee recruit, became the first major addition for Nebraska coach Scott Frost after he accepted the job at his alma mater in 2017. He set several freshman records in 2018 but lost his starting job for stretches in 2020.

Frost fired all but one offensive assistant last month, including quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco, who had worked directly with Martinez.

I watched an inordinate number of Nebraska games this fall, due to a family friend being a Nebraska fan.

His take: Martinez is a tremendous athlete, who can make throws and scramble well. But he's kind of like a middle-relief guy. He's best when the game isn't on the line, and wracks up lots of stats during the middle two-thirds of the game. At the end of games, and in tight situations when he's called upon to make plays, he almost always ends up making a key mistake.

So, he's productive, but not someone to be relied upon when the game is on the line.

They beat Northwestern. And despite losing every other game, they scored an equal amount of points in B1G games as their opponents scored against them. Best 3-9 in history.

UH, that doesn’t math.

How do you lose all those games then, if points for an against were equal??

They had a ton of bad luck things happen in one yr.. I mean iowa beat them and couldnt even begin to move the ball but you block a kick, get a bad bounce deflecting, a couple bad calls by the ref and things add up.

Beat one school by 17, lose to rest by 17 combined

Holy hell!!
That makes our spate of last second 3 point losses look like child’s play.

I think he will do well with a change of scenery.

I'd like Shrader to beat out someone with experience regardless.

Is this guy in his 16th year as a college football player?

It seems like he has been around forever.

He backed up Craig Sundberg in 1984. They should have brought him in.

Maybe Shrader can be the closer

He throws the ball a heck of a lot better then who we have as of now.
Not true have watched every game and many in person. He is a turnover machine think he has the all time NCAA record. In every game he throws 4-6 balls that should be picked off and some are. He also makes dumb decisions and gets sacked, does not throw ball away. Furthermore, he fumbles at least once a game and to boot is injured or playing dinged up most games. Stay far away what we have is much better and would say Devito is better.

Well it was actual 49 point win over Northwestern. But yeah they had a lot of heartache this year with how games finished
Where did you get the 17 from? They beat Northwestern by 49 and lost their other 8 B1G games by 49 combined points or 6.125 ppg. They also lot to Oklahoma by 7 so their 9 P5 losses were by 6.2 ppg. Their largest P5 loss was to Ohio State by 9 points.

They also racked up a lot of yards and garbage TDs late to make some of those games close.

If you look farther down I said it was actually 49

So 9 losses by a score. Yeah that sucks if you're a fan of the team.
