like your SU love, but maybe we can 'love' in different ways. I don't see anything wrong with acknowledging fault in something you love. Or, with debating different ways to skin a dog. Debate is the only thing that makes this forum interesting. Rah-rah pep rallies get boring. Quickly. 1. Anti-zone. Not sure why you think it's so odd that people don't like it. Out of all of the NCAA D1 teams in the country, we're pretty unique. That kinda indicates that the vast (super vast) majority of other coaches (and fans) don't favor the zone as a primary defense. It's actually an outlier for us to 'like' it, and i even question that — that we 'like' it. We defend it, too often, because attacking it feels like an attack on us/the program/an institution that represents us somehow. But, objectively, that's not the case. K has won enough that he doesn't have to defend his system. Some say the same about JB. But, objectively, there are (simplistically) two different schools of thought. If it's perplexing for a fan to choose the one that 95% of the other experts (coaches) choose, then i don't know what else to say. We're not siding 'against JB,' we're siding WITH other 'experts.' 2. Anti-Jimmy B. Blaming Coach for violations committed by others. Well, who, then, should be ultimately responsible? This is our SECOND go-round with violations. That's, at least, one too many. While i (and Jay) don't believe the punishment was in line with the offenses, there were offenses. And, if the head coach isn't liable, then no one is. And, the NCAA can't exist without someone being liable. No, he's not liable for a college kid smoking weed. He's liable for knowing about it (failed drug tests) and ignoring it. It is/was still illegal. We rag on other programs when they have incidents with alcohol — didn't a kid recently run over his teammate while they were both drunk? The law is the law, despite rationalizations of 'normalcy.' There was a university drug testing protocol. If you know the results and then ignore them, that means something. The money. Not a lot of money, if you ask me. But, where's the line? How often do our members rant about PayPal Cal? Illegal payments to athletes are like cockroaches. If y0u see one, there are many more lurking elsewhere. The violations were discovered. They had to be punished. Who's to blame? No, i don't believe a coach can know everything. But, it's a deterrent if the program is punished. We need those types of 'checks and balances.' Pitino claims he didn't know about hookers and strippers in his teams' dorms. No one outside of Louisville believes that denial. No different with us. Sometimes we're too close to the situation and it's an 'outsiders versus us' scenario. Facts are facts, even when they're against us. Still, when something/someone is close to us, we feel they're still meant to be defended. Your child commits a crime. You try to get him a break. If it were someone else's kid, you'd want the book thrown at him. Human nature. But, it's not logical or representative of truth or what's good for the community. JB's behavior. Well, he's boorish. Dickish at times. It's unnecessary. It's ugly at times. And, yeah — maybe it has something, over many many years, to do with how he's treated. I personally don't get the connection: media / NCAA. But, whatever. If you're rude to innocent people in public, there are probably going to be consequences. Somehow. A lot of people think it's 'fun,' seeing JB 'stick it' to someone. Maybe they think he should get a pass because he's famous/in the HOF/whatever. But, again. Consequences. If JB chooses to do that, without recognizing that grace might be a better approach than surliness, then he's got to live with the (possible) results. Unfortunately, as a representative of our university, he's passing along those results to us. I don't believe the two things have anything to do with each other. But, people like to find conspiracies. Makes them feel intelligent... Either way, the 'Popovic' aura is condescending. That's never going to go over well. And, again, because it's 'our guy' doing it, a lot of us are going to like/forgive it. I don't. Not sure i understand what you're talking about. Jb's handled What with integrity? Won't sell out to make Who feel better about What? What part is a "sell out?" Treating other people with respect? Maybe you think his 'honesty' is to be commended. But, no one is Honest all the time. We calibrate our speech and our actions to be appropriate for the given situation. At least, the mature people do. Then, you have a Bieber, who kinda doesn't...
