Total: 442/1272 = 34.7% vs. 407/1341 = 30.4%

We won this stat 26 times and are 20-6 in those games. We were 3-8 when we lose it. We dominated the boards in the pre-season and broke even in the ACC. We rebounded our own misses at the same rate in ACC wins and losses but the other team got a lot more offensive rebs when they beat us than when we won. There was a lot more offensive rebounding on both ends when we lost in the post season than there was when we won. The median NCAA team rebounded 26.7% of their misses this year.

EFFECTIVE OFFFENSIVE REBOUNDING
(second chance points divided by offensive rebounds)

Pre-conference:
In Wins: 154/161 = 0.957 vs 95/106 = 0.896
In Losses: 20/31 = 0.645 vs. 12/15= 0.800
Total: 174/192 = 0.906 vs. 107/121 = 0.884

Conference:
In Wins: 83/79 = 1.051 vs. 60/67 = 0.896
In Losses: 99/105 = 0.943 vs. 131/129 = 1.016
Total: 182/184 = 0.989 vs. 191/196 = 0.974

Post-Season:
In Wins: 36/36 = 1.000 vs. 52/59 = 0.881
In Losses: 30/30 = 1.000 vs. 37/31 = 1.194
Total: 66/66 = 1.000 vs. 89/90 = 0.989

Season:
In Wins: 273/276 = 0.989 vs 207/232 = 0.892
In Losses: 149/166 = 0.898 vs. 180/175 = 1.029
Total: 422/442 = 0.955 vs. 387/407 = 0.951

We won this stat 17 times and are 14-3 in those games. We were 9-11 when we lost it. The overall numbers aren’t too much different than our opposition but there’s a significant difference between the wins and losses.

UNFORCED TURNOVERS
(total minus other team’s steals = unforced)

Pre-conference:
In Wins: 134-65 = 69 vs. 154-99 = 55
In Losses: 33-8 = 25 vs. 32-17 = 15
Total: 167-73 = 94 vs. 186-116 = 70

Conference:
In Wins: 81-44 = 37 vs. 100-49 = 51
In Losses: 136-76 = 60 vs. 115-62 = 53
Total: 217-120 = 97 vs. 215-111 = 104

Post-Season:
In Wins: 48-19 = 29 vs. 50-23 = 27
In Losses: 28-16 = 12 vs. 18-8 = 10
Total: 76-35 = 41 vs. 68-31 = 37

Season:
In Wins: 263-128 = 135 vs. 304-171 = 133
In Losses: 197-100 = 97 vs. 165-87 = 78
Total: 460-228 = 232 vs. 469-258 = 211

We led in this stat 13 times and been even 4 times. We were 10-3 when we won it, 2-2 when we broke even and 10-9 when we lost it. This seemed to make the biggest difference in conference games.

(Points off turnovers/ the other team’s turnovers)

Pre-conference:
In Wins: 184/154 = 1.195 vs. 136/134 = 1.015
In Losses: 25/32 = 0.781 vs. 35/33 = 1.061
Total: 209/186 = 1.124 vs. 171/167 = 1.024

Conference:
In Wins: 103/100 = 1.030 vs. 68/81 = 0.840

In Losses: 10/19 = 0.526 vs. 31/27 = 1.148
Total: 62/69 = 0.898 vs. 64/75 = 0.853

Season:
In Wins: 339/304 = 1.115 vs. 237/263 = 0.901
In Losses: 150/165 = 0.909 vs. 215/196 = 1.097
Total: 489/469 = 1.043 vs. 452/459 = 0.985

We led in this stat 23 times and were 18-5 in those games. We were 5-9 when we lost this stat. This one made the biggest difference in the pre-season and post season. We just didn’t take enough advantage of turnovers in the losses.

UNSETTLED SITUATIONS
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

Pre-conference:
In Wins: 348/315 = 1.105 vs. 231/240 = 0.9625
In Losses: 45/63 = 0.714 vs. 47/48 = 0.979
Total: 393/378 = 1.040 vs. 278/288 = 0.965

Conference:
In Wins: 186/179 = 1.039 vs. 128/148 =0.865
In Losses: 214/221 = 0.968 vs. 280/264 = 1.061

Post-Season:
In Wins: 88/86 =1.023 vs. 85/107 = 0.794
In Losses: 40/49 = 0.816 vs. 67/58 = 1.155
Total: 128/135 = 0.948 vs. 152/165 = 0.921

Season:
In Wins: 622/580 = 1.072 vs. 444/495 = 0.897
In Losses: 299/333 = 0.898 vs. 394/370 = 1.065
Total: 921/913 = 1.009 vs. 838/865 = 0.969

We won this stat 20 times and were 17-3 in those games. We were 6-11 when we lost it. This stat is a very strong predictor of wins and losses. Opportunism!

MANUFACTURED POSSESSIONS
(One team’s rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

Pre-conference:
In Wins: 462 + 154 = 616 vs. 341 + 134= 475
In Losses: 85 + 32 = 117 vs. 70 + 33 = 103
Total: 547 + 186 = 733 vs. 411 + 167 = 578

Conference:
In Wins: 285 + 100 = 385 vs. 241 + 81 = 322
In Losses: 332 + 115 = 447 vs. 361 + 136 = 497
Total: 617 + 215 = 832 vs. 602 + 217 = 819

Post-Season:
In Wins: 138 + 50 = 188 vs. 149 + 48 = 197
In Losses: 74 + 18 = 92 vs. 75 + 28 = 103
Total: 212 + 68 = 280 vs. 224 + 76 = 300

Season:
In Wins: 885 + 304 = 1189 vs. 731 + 263 = 994
In Losses: 491 + 165 = 656 vs. 506 + 197 = 703
Total: 1376 + 469 = 1845 vs. 1237 + 460 = 1697

We have won this stat 25 times and it was even twice. We were 20-5 when we won it, 1-1 when it was even and 2-8 when we lost it. But this one’s even stronger. Possession is 9/10 of the law- and of basketball. The post season stats are off kilter because of that very much off kilter Michigan State game.
