Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 8 of our 23 misses = 34.8%
They rebounded 5 of their 25 misses = 20.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 14 points on 8 O-Rebs = 1.750 points/O-reb
They got 7 points on 5 O-Rebs = 1.400 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 11 turnovers – 7 steals = 4 unforced
They had 17 turnovers – 8 steals = 9 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 17 points from 17 takeaways = 1.000 points/takeaway
They had 6 points from 11 takeaways = 0.545 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 31 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.240 points
They had 13 points in 16 unsettled situations = 0.8125 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 28 + 17 = 45
They had 20 + 11= 31

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots (shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 22 for 32 on twos, (68.8%), 7 for 16 on threes (43.8%) and 16 for 22 on frees (72.7%)
They were 6 for 17 on twos, (35.3%), 11 for 23 on threes (47.8%) and 10 for 12 on frees (83.3%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 30 PIP, 35 POP, 21 TREY, 14 TZ, 17 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 14 PIP, 39 POP, 33 TREY, 6 TZ, 6 POTO, 6 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 4 FBP in 31 opportunities (12.9%)
They scored 6 FBP in 24 opportunities (25.0%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 47 FCP and 14 SCP
They had 40 FCP and 7 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 69 points and our bench scored 12 points
Their starters scored 59 points and their bench scored 4 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 11 of our 29 field goals = 37.9%
They assisted 14 of their 21 field goals = 66.7%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 81 points in 61 possessions = 1.328 points/ possession
They scored 63 points in 62 possessions = 1.016 points/possession
It was a 123 possession game. (We are averaging 134 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

21-20, 26-17, 15-7, 19-19

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 32 two point shots, scored 30 points in the paint, attempted 22 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 2.00; 1.88; 1.38
They attempted 21 two point shots, scored 14 points in the paint, attempted 12 free throws and were fouled 14 times = 1.50; 1.00; 0.86

They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots or scoring in the paint but we got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- We won every possession stat and when we do that we will be tough to beat.

- We were out-shot form the arc and the line but shot 69% on our two point shots, including 14 points form the Twilight Zone. That’s also tough to beat.

- It was the 5th straight game we’ve won First Chance Points. The last time were beaten in our opening sets was wake Forest, when the losing streak started.

- We led in both starter points (69-59) and bench points (12-4).it was the first time we’d done that since the opener at Cornell. It was the first time we’d led in bench points since Kansas, (3-2). It’s unlikely to happen again.

- Our offensive efficiency was easily the best of the season, 1.328 points per possession. The previous best had been 1.250 vs. Texas Southern.
