I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) This is limited to recruited scholarship players only. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season: Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5 Benny Williams +25NP in 27 minutes = +122NP in 381 minutes = +12.8NP/40 for season Judah Mintz +17NP in 35 minutes = +170NP in 436 minutes = +15.6NP/40 for season Joe Girard +16NP in 39 minutes = +144NP in 465 minutes = +12.4NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +11NP in 25 minutes = +302NP in 425 minutes = +28.4NP/40 for season Justin Taylor +6NP in 19 minutes = +59NP in 214 minutes = +11.9NP/40 for season Chris Bell +2NP in 14 minutes = +42NP in 271 minutes = +6.2NP/40 for season Mounir Hima +2NP in 15 minutes = +42NP in 104 minutes = +16.2NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +2NP in 19 minutes = +65NP in 200 minutes = +13.0NP/40 for season Quadir Copeland +1NP in 7 minutes = +20NP in 86 minutes = +9.3NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak +1NP in 9 minutes = +35NP in 112 minutes = +12.5NP/40 for season Maliq Brown 0NP in 4 minutes = +78NP in 134 minutes = +23.3NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Peter Carey 0NP in 0 minutes = -2NP in 20 minutes = -4.0NP/40 for season Injured or ill and couldn’t play None Suspended None Redshirting None Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Joe Girard 24 points and 4 assists = 28 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Joe Girard 24 points – 11mfg – 1mft = +12 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Benny Williams 16 points of 26 = 61.5% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Joe Girard 39 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 12 of our 33 misses = 36.3% They rebounded 13 of their 38 misses = 34.2% Unsettled Situations [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 29 points in 28 unsettled situations = 1.036 points/situation They had 25 points in 27 unsettled situations = 0.926 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 37 + 16 = 53 They had 34 + 14 = 48 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 21 for 45 on twos, (46.7%), 8 for 16 on threes (50.0%) and 13 for 15 on frees (86.7%) They were 19 for 45 on twos, (42.2%), 4 for 12 on threes (33.3%) and 15 for 21 on frees (71.4%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 34 PIP, 32 POP, 24 OL, 8 TZ, 13 FT They had 38 PIP, 12 POP, 12 OL, 0 TZ, 15 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 6 FBP in 40 opportunities (15.0%) They scored 11 FBP in 31 opportunities (35.5%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 52 FCP and 8 SCP They had 26 FCP and 13 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 70 points and our bench scored 8 points. Their starters scored 47 points and their bench scored 18 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 17 of our 29 field goals = 58.6% They assisted 12 of their 23 field goals = 52.2% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 79 points in 70 possessions = 1.129 points/ possession They scored 65 points in 70 possessions = 0.929 points/possession It was a 140-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 79 points in 68 possessions = 1.162 points/ possession They scored 65 points in 67 possessions = 0.970 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 79 points, missed 32 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +45 They scored 65 points, missed 34 field goals and missed 6 free throws = net +25 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 79 on 45 two-point attempts, 16 three-point attempts and 15 free throw attempts = 79 of a possible 153 points = 51.6% of possible points scored. They scored 65 on 45 two-point attempts, 12 three-point attempts and 21 free throw attempts = 65 of a possible 147 points = 44.2% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 45 two-point shots and were fouled 16 times = 2.81 They attempted 45 two-point shots and were fouled 17 times = 2.65 Comments: - Benny Williams’ +25NP were easily his career high. He had +17 against Colgate and St. John’s and +18 against Duke last year. - It’s surprising that BC pushed the ball up court more than we did, (11 fast break points to 6, 35.5% of their chances to 15.0% for us) - Maybe we didn’t need to. We had 52 first chance points to 26. - They had 13 second chance points to our 8 but we countered that with 21 points off turnovers to 12.
