Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 12 of our 32 misses = 37.5%
They rebounded 9 of their 31 misses = 29.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 16 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.333 points/O-reb
They got 14 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.556 points/O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 15 turnovers – 7 steals = 8 unforced
They had 10 turnovers – 5 steals = 5 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 18 points from 10 takeaways = 1.800 points/takeaway
They had 19 points from 15 takeaways = 1.267 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 35 points in 22 unsettled situations = 1.590 points
They had 33 points in 24 unsettled situations = 1.375 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 34 + 10 = 44
They had 29 + 15 = 44

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 9 for 26 on twos, (34.6%), 10 for 24 on threes (41.7%) and 22 for 25 on frees (88.0%)
They were 12 for 27 on twos, (44.4%), 14 for 27 on threes (51.9%) and 19 for 24 on frees (79.2%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 12 PIP, 36 POP, 30 TREY, 6 TZ, 18 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 20 PIP, 46 POP, 42 TREY, 4 TZ, 19 POTO, 8 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 4 FBP in 31 opportunities (12.9%)
They scored 8 FBP in 28 opportunities (28.6%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 28 FCP and 16 SCP
They had 44 FCP and 14 SCP

Last Possessions
(Points scored on the last full possession of a half, a game or an overtime period.)

We scored 2 points
They scored 3 points

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 68 points and our bench scored 2 points
Their starters scored 67 points and their bench scored 18 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 8 of our 19 field goals = 42.1%
They assisted 19 of their 26 field goals = 73.1%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 70 points in 65 possessions = 1.027 points/ possession
They scored 85 points in 66 possessions = 1.288 points/possession
It was a 131 possession game. (We are averaging 131 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

14-21, 23-19, 14-18, 19-27

Fouls
(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 26 two point shots, attempted 25 free throws and were fouled 22 times = 1.18; 1.14
They attempted 27 two point shots, attempted 24 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 1.42; 1.26
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but they got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- 1.800 points per takeway is the third best we’d done this season, (behind Virginia I and Louisville) and better than any opponent has done against us. But we just didn’t have enough takeaways for it to matter. If we’d had the 17 takeaways we had in the first game, that would have produced 31 points at that rate, instead of 18.

- We scored 35 points in unsettled situations, (O-Rebs +takeaways), but only 28 in our opening sets, (first chance points).

- I’m astonished that BC was credited with only 8 fast break points. I thought they had at least twice that many.

- We virtually always win “starters points and we did here, 68-67. But we need to win that by a much larger margin to offset a 2-18 deficit in bench scoring.
