I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)
Net Points
(points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls)

Buddy Boeheim +11NP in 35 minutes = +130NP in 538 minutes = +9.7NP/40 for season
Marek Dolezaj +9NP in 37 minutes = +243NP in 651 minutes = +14.9NP/40 for season
Kadary Richmond +6NP in 15 minutes = +162NP in 380 minutes = +17.1NP/40 for season

Scoring Efficiency
(Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points)
Marek Dolezaj 13 points of 22 = 59.1%
My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)
Marek Dolezaj and Buddy Boeheim 37 minutes
TEAM STATS
Possession
Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 7 of our 30 misses = 23.3%
They rebounded 10 of their 40 misses = 25.0%
Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 8 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.143 points/O-Reb
They got 12 points on 10 O-Rebs = 1.200 points/O-Reb
Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 17 turnovers – 8 steals = 9 unforced
They had 15 turnovers – 10 steals = 5 unforced
Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 14 points from 15 takeovers = 0.937 points/takeaway
They had 11 points from 17 takeovers = 0.647 points/takeaway
Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 22 points in 22 unsettled situations = 1.000 points
They had 23 points in 27 unsettled situations = 0.852 points
Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 37 + 15 = 52
They had 33 + 17 = 50
Hustle Stats
One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + blocks + steals. I decided to keep track of that, too:
We had 37 + 6 + 10 = 53
They had 33 + 4 + 8 = 45
Scoring
Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 21 for 43 on twos, (48.8%), 5 for 11 on threes (45.5%) and 18 for 23 on frees (78.3%)
They were 14 for 32 on twos, (43.8%), 9 for 31 on threes (29.0%) and 12 for 13 on frees (92.3%)
Combined percentages were: 488 + 455 + 783 = 1,726 vs. 438 + 290 + 923 = 1,651 = +75
Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FBP = fast break points
POTO= points off turnovers
We had 38 PIP, 19 POP, 15 OL, 4 TZ, 14 POTO, 15 FBP
They had 20 PIP, 35 POP, 27 OL, 8 TZ, 11 POTO, 11 FBP
Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 15 FBP in 46 opportunities (32.6%)
They scored 11 FBP in 35 opportunities (31.4%)
First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 34 FCP and 8 SCP
They had 32 FCP and 12 SCP
Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 68 points and our bench scored 7 points.
Their starters scored 50 points and their bench scored 17 points.
Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 12 of our 26 field goals = 46.2%
They assisted 14 of their 23 field goals = 60.9%
Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 75 points in 74 possessions = 1.014 points/ possession
They scored 67 points in 73 possessions = 0.918 points/possession
It was a 147-possession game.
If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 75 points in 65 possessions = 1.154 points/ possession
They scored 67 points in 69 possessions = 0.971 points/possession
Team Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)
We scored 75 points, missed 28 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +42
They scored 67 points, missed 40 field goals and missed 1 free throws = net +26
(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)
We scored 75 on 43 two point attempts, 11 three point attempts and 23 free throw attempts = 75 of a possible 142 points = 52.8% of possible points scored.
They scored 67 on 32 two point attempts, 31 three point attempts and 12 free throw attempts = 67 of a possible 170 points = 39.4% of possible points scored.
Fouls
(Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.)
We attempted 43 two point shots and were fouled 18 times = 2.39
They attempted 32 two point shots and were fouled 16 times = 2.00
At this rate, if they’d taken 43 two point shots, they’d have been fouled 22 times.
Comments
- In the first BC game, both teams took 31 three point shots. We attempted 32 two points shot. They attempted 37. In this game, BC attempted 31 treys and 32 two pointers but we attempted just 11 treys to 43 two point shots.
- We attempted only 4 free throws in the first half to 8. In the second half it was 19 to 5.
- We have rebounded a lower percentage of our misses 8 times in 9 games.
- We have scored fewer second chance points per offensive rebound 7 times in 10 games.
- We had fewer points per turnover four games in a row prior to today’s game.
- We have had fewer points in unsettled situations, (the above two stats), 10 times in 13 games.
- Our bench has outscore the other team’s bench twice this year with one game even in a total of 18 games.
- The opposition has had a higher percentage of baskets assisted 14 times in 18 games including the last 6 in a row.
- We have been less likely to get a foul called on a two-point shot than the opposition for 8 games in a row now.
