I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) (season totals double-checked from Cuse.com stats on 3/1) Alan Griffin +24NP in 29 minutes = +84NP in 164 minutes = +20.5NP/40 for season Joe Girard +22NP in 17 minutes = +41NP in 155 minutes = +10.6NP/40 for season Quincy Guerrier +18NP in 30 minutes = +103NP in 155 minutes = +26.6NP/40 for season Marek Dolezaj +16NP in 28 minutes = +77NP in 157 minutes = +19.6NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim +14NP in 25 minutes = +31NP in 62 minutes = +20.0NP/40 for season Kadary Richmond +13NP in 20 minutes = +73NP in 132 minutes = +22.1NP/40 for season Woody Newton +10NP in 15 minutes = +36NP in 60 minutes = +24.0NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards 0NP in 4 minutes = +1NP in 12 minutes = +3.3NP/40 for season Frank Anselem 0NP in 9 minutes = +5NP in 26 minutes = +7.7NP/40 for season Robert Braswell -2NP in 11 minutes = -8NP in 41 minutes = -7.8NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak -2NP in 3 minutes = -1NP in 26 minutes = -1.5NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Chaz Owens Injured and couldn’t play Bourama Sidibie (+1NP in 4 minutes = +10.0NP/40 for season) Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Alan Griffin 22 points and 4 assists = 26 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Alan Griffin 22 points – 5mfg – 0mft = +17 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Joe Girard 17 points of 23 = 73.9% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Quincy Guerrier 30 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 8 of our 26 misses = 30.8% They rebounded 11 of their 43 misses = 25.6% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 9 points on 8 O-Rebs = 1.125 points/O-Reb They got 7 points on 11 O-Rebs = 0.636 points/O-Reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 17 turnovers – 10 steals = 7 unforced They had 17 turnovers – 9 steals = 8 unforced Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 24 points from 17 takeovers = 1.412 points/takeaway They had 12 points from 17 takeovers = 0.705 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 33 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.320 points They had 19 points in 28 unsettled situations = 0.679 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 40 + 17 = 57 They had 29 + 17 = 46 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 40 + 0 + 9 = 49 They had 29 + 1 + 10 = 40 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 21 for 32 on twos, (65.6%), 16 for 31 on threes (51.6%) and 11 for 12 on frees (91.7%) They were 12 for 37 on twos, (32.4%), 8 for 31 on threes (25.8%) and 9 for 14 on frees (64.3%) Combined percentages were: 656 + 516 + 917 = 2,089 vs. 324 + 258 + 643 = 1,225 = +864 Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 38 PIP, 52 POP, 48 OL, 4 TZ, 24 POTO, 21 FBP They had 24 PIP, 30 POP, 24 OL, 6 TZ, 12 POTO, 11 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 21 FBP in 41 opportunities (51.2%) They scored 11 FBP in 29 opportunities (37.9%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 60 FCP and 9 SCP They had 36 FCP and 7 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 80 points and our bench scored 21 points Their starters scored 23 points and their bench scored 40 points Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 23 of our 37 field goals = 62.2% They assisted 15 of their 23 field goals = 65.2% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 101 points in 78 possessions = 1.295 points/ possession They scored 63 points in 78 possessions = 0.808 points/possession It was a 156 possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 101 points in 69 possessions = 1.464 points/ possession They scored 63 points in 65 possessions = 0.964 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 101 points, missed 26 field goals and missed 1 free throws = net +74 They scored 63 points, missed 42 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +16 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 101 on 32 two point attempts, 31 three point attempts and 12 free throw attempts = 101 of a possible 169 points = 59.8% of possible points scored. They scored 63 on 37 two point attempts, 31 three point attempts and 14 free throw attempts = 63 of a possible 181 points = 34.8% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 32 two point shots and were fouled 12 times = 2.67 They attempted 37 two point shots and were fouled 14 times = 2.64 Comments - - Rounding off, we’ve got an incredible six players who are averaging 20NP/40 minutes. My rule of thumb is that 10NP/40 means you could be a starter, 20 makes you an All-America candidate. That’s over five games, a couple against over-matched teams and a couple in limited minutes. But it’s still impressive. - Alan Griffin came advertised as a scorer and he sure is. This was his third 20 point game in a row. And he’s really just learning the game. JB wants him to learn to score off the dribble. - Our most efficient scorer? Joe Girard! - I’ve never seen such a difference in shooting percent ages. +864! - We’ve gotten more points off turnovers in every game so far, a total of 95-49, +46. - BC won the battle of the benches 40-21. Fortunately, our starters out-scored theirs 80-23. Eighty to twenty three!
