I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Buddy Boeheim +25NP in 29 minutes = +154NP in 411 minutes = +15.0NP/40 for season Joe Girard +19NP in 28 minutes = +161NP in 368 minutes = +17.5NP/40 for season Jimmy Boeheim +18NP in 30 minutes = +135NP in 379 minutes = +14.2NP/40 for season Cole Swider +14NP in 30 minutes = +128NP in 368 minutes = +13.9NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +13NP in 24 minutes = +160NP in 300 minutes = +21.3NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +10NP in 17 minutes = +36NP in 128 minutes = +11.25NP/40 for season Frank Anselem +4NP in 11 minutes = +32NP in 120 minutes = +10.7NP/40 for season Chaz Owens +3NP in 2 minutes = +4NP in 4 minutes = +40.0NP/40 for season Benny Williams +2NP in 17 minutes = +5NP in 148 minutes = +1.35NP/40 for season Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 3 minutes = 0NP in 0 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Injured or ill and couldn’t play John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 10 minutes = +20.0NP/40 for season Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Buddy Boeheim 28 points and 3 assists = 31 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Buddy Boeheim 28 points – 8mfg – 0mft = +20 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Buddy Boeheim and Cole Swider 13 points of 21 = 61.9% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Jimmy Boeheim and Cole Swider 30 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 10 of our 31 misses = 32.3% They rebounded 14 of their 46 misses = 26.1% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 11 points on 10 O-Rebs = 1.100 points/O-Reb They got 5 points on 14 O-Rebs = 0.357 points/O-Reb Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 13 points from 12 takeovers = 1.083 points/takeaway They had 12 points from 14 takeovers = 0.857 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 24 points in 22 unsettled situations = 1.091 points/situation They had 17 points in 28 unsettled situations = 0.607 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 42 + 14 = 56 They had 35 + 12 = 47 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 22 for 40 on twos, (55.0%), 13 for 21 on threes (61.9%) and 10 for 20 on frees (50.0%) They were 14 for 36 on twos, (38.9%), 9 for 31 on threes (29.0%) and 7 for 10 on frees (70.0%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 36 PIP, 47 POP, 39 OL, 8 TZ, 10 FT They had 26 PIP, 29 POP, 27 OL, 2 TZ, 7 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 12 FBP in 46 opportunities (26.1%) They scored 8 FBP in 32 opportunities (25.0%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 60 FCP and 11 SCP They had 42 FCP and 5 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 77 points and our bench scored 16 points. Their starters scored 31 points and their bench scored 31 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 23 of our 35 field goals = 65.7% They assisted 16 of their 23 field goals = 69.6% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 93 points in 73 possessions = 1.274 points/ possession They scored 62 points in 72 possessions = 0.861 points/possession It was a 145-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 93 points in 71 possessions = 1.310 points/ possession They scored 62 points in 72 possessions = 0.861 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 93 points, missed 26 field goals and missed 10 free throws = net +57 They scored 62 points, missed 44 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +15 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 93 on 40 two-point attempts, 21 three-point attempts and 20 free throw attempts = 93 of a possible 163 points = 57.1% of possible points scored. They scored 62 on 36 two-point attempts, 31 three-point attempts and 10 free throw attempts = 62 of a possible 175 points = 35.4% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 40 two-point shots and were fouled 17 times = 2.35 They attempted 36 two-point shots and were fouled 8 times = 4.50 If they’d attempted 40 two point field goals at that rate, they’d have been fouled 9 times. Comments: - We got 11 points on 10 O-Rebs while they got 5 points on 14 O-Rebs. That may be due to superior shooting or size rather than fancy passing. - We’ve hit 73.3% of our free throws this year. We hit 44% in the first half on 16 attempts and 75% in the second half on 4 attempts. If we’d hit 12 of 16 in the first half, (75%), we’d have bene ahead 43-32 at halftime and the angst we felt at halftime would not have bene there. - The other thing about this is: why did we get 4 attempts in the second half. We attempted 14 two point shots in the first half and got fouled 11 times. We attempted 26 two point shots in the second half and got fouled 6 times. I had the impression that, as the score mounted, the refs became more reluctant to calls fouls on the team falling behind. - Holding the bears to 0.861 points per possession as our second best defensive performance of the season, behind 0.857 at Florida State. That’s our last win so I guess we know what the key to victory is.
