I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of the non-conference season, the ACC season and the post season. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Marek Dolezaj 20NP in 30 minutes Frank Howard 10NP in 35 minutes Elijah Hughes 9NP in 35 minutes Tyus Battle 7NP in 40 minutes Bourama Sidibe 6NP in 16 minutes Jalen Carey 1NP in 5 minutes Oshae Brissett 1NP in 34 minutes Buddy Boeheim -1NP in 5 minutes DNP coach’s decision Robert Braswell Paschal Chukwu Injured Out for the year Howard Washington Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Frank Howard 12 points + 4 assists = 16 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus field goal and free throw attempts) Marek Dolezaj 10 points - 2mfg – 0mft = +8 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Frank Howard 12 of 25 possible points = 48.0% Sat Us Down (Who scored the first SU basket of each half?) 1st Half- Tyus Battle jumper 1:24 in 2nd Half- Frank Howard jumper 1:20 in TACO Bell MVP (Who scored the point that got us to 70, which gets you free tacos with your ticket stub) No tacos for us! Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 7 of our 32 misses = 21.9% They rebounded 11 of their 39 misses = 28.2% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 6 points on 7 O-Rebs = 0.857 points/O-reb They got 10 points on 11 O-Rebs = 0.909 points/O-reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 15 turnovers – 7 steals = 8 unforced They had 17 turnovers – 5 steals = 12 unforced Points per Takeaway (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 20 points from 17 takeaways = 1.176 points/takeaway They had 12 points from 15 takeaways = 0.800 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 26 points in 24 unsettled situations = 1.083 points They had 22 points in 26 unsettled situations = 0.846 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 35 + 17 = 52 They had 36 + 15 = 51 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 14 for 22 on twos, (63.6%), 6 for 26 on threes (23.1%) and 15 for 23on frees (65.2%) They were 14 for 33 on twos, (42.4%), 5 for 20 on threes (25.0%) and 10 for 17 on frees (58.8%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers) We had 18 PIP, 28 POP, 18 TREY, 10 TZ, 20 POTO, 9 FBP They had 22 PIP, 21 POP, 15 TREY, 6 TZ, 12 POTO, 4 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 9 FBP in 40 opportunities (22.5%) They scored 4 FBP in 34 opportunities (11.8%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 61 points in 67 possessions = 0.910 points/ possession They scored 53 points in 67 possessions = 0.791 points/possession It was a 134 possession game. Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 61 points, missed 28 field goals and 8 missed free throws = net 25 They scored 53 points, missed 34 field goals and 7 missed free throws = net 12 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 61 on 22 two point attempts, 26 three point attempts and 23 free throw attempts = 61 of a possible 145 points = 42.1% of possible points scored. They scored 53 on 33 two point attempts, 20 three point attempts and 17 free throw attempts = 53 of a possible 143 points = 37.1% of possible points scored. Breakdown by Quarters (Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one) 17-9, 13-12, 18-14, 13-17 Fouls (Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.) We attempted 22 two point shots, attempted 23 free throws and were fouled 22 times = 1.00; 1.05 They attempted 33 two point shots, attempted 17 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 2.06; 1.06 We were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but they got more free throws out of it when we were fouled –by the tiniest of margins. Comments - There were 32 turnovers in this game and only 12 were steals. That’s 20 unforced turnovers, 12 by the losers. That kind of defines a sloppy game. - But we had 20 points off their 17 turnovers while they had only 12 off of our 15. 20-12 = the margin of victory. - The biggest statistical difference between the teams is that we shot 63.6% from two point range to 42.4% for Clemson. And that’s with Chukwu on the bench the whole game. - In the Notre Dame game we attempted 39 two point shots and drew 12 fouls that produced only 5 free throw attempts. In this game we attempted 22 two point shots and were fouled 22 times, producing 23 free throw attempts.
