SCP is second chance points.) Their starters scored 26 points and their bench scored 28 points. Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 14 of our 21 field goals = 66.7% They assisted 17 of their 20 field goals = 80.5% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 64 points in 59 possessions = 1.085 points/ possession They scored 54 points in 59 possessions = 0.915 points/possession It was a 118-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 64 points in 63 possessions = 1.016 points/ possession They scored 54 points in 62 possessions = 0.871 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 64 points, missed 35 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +26 They scored 54 points, missed 39 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +13 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 64 on 24 two point attempts, 32 three point attempts and 15 free throw attempts = 64 of a possible 159 points = 40.3% of possible points scored. Comments - The caliber of defense played by both teams is reflected in the scoring in ‘unsettled situation”, (after an offensive rebound or a turnover). We scored just 12 points after 19 such situations and Clemson scored 12 in 18. Normally a team will average a point per each situation. It’s hard for teams to play organized defense in those situations or do it with much intensity, at least for the first few seconds after the rebound or turnover but these teams kept right on playing sticky defense even when they lost or failed to get control of the ball. - Here’s another defensive accomplishment: Clemson hit 17 of 28 two point shots in the first meeting, (60.7%). In this one they were 10/30 = 33.3%). - You can deal with their bench out-scoring yours 10-28 if your starters out-score theirs 54-26. - Both teams had 10 three pointers. We had one more two-pointer, 11-10. So how did 17 of their 20 baskets get credited with assists when only 14 of our 21 were? [/QUOTE]
